ok guys. many thanks for the pieces of advice that you've given me. thanks to @elantric & @gumtown

i will mentally-digest your advice one by one and as best as i can. im not so technical though so uhm if i got questions, i will refer again to yous. at the meantime, my main priority is to get my amp sorted as this is just not working for me. it dawned on me that i cannott learn my GR55 well if i dont have the proper equipment. so it's a need to get this thing sorted. maybe i'll just sell this amp and buy something that works well with the GR55. im thinking of "zero noise" amplifier. clean idle sound.

just out of interest, what amps are you guys using btw? would you guys recommend a Roland Cube? im thinking of an amp that i can use as for home-use and for gig setup. and price-wise, the cheaper the better too.

also, i just noticed that there is no youtube demo/tutorial video on how to edit/save using the Floorboard editor. it would be nice and very helpful if someone can post one for people like me who are non-techy and newbie. just basic editing would for the demo IMO.

i've checked youtube and i saw a vids. one of them is the vid of Polina sedova. very nice cover using the GR55.  i wanted to do something like what she's doing in the future. simple yet functional setup. here's the vid.

This is what Elantric had recommended in his previous post with the link "Best Amps for GR-55"

Todays modern self powered 1000 watt PA speakers  have come a long way compared to what was available just 10 years ago.
I still like my pair of Alesis Alpha 112A' best all around price/performance ratio for  small club band live gig amplification or stage monitors for my DSP Modeler guitar/synth vocals needs.
Others use QSC K12's
Powered monitors are the way to go, light weight and powerful

Speakers noted:
Alesis Alpha 112A or QSC K12

I checked our local music store online. unfortunately they dont have those brands. what they have are Samson, Behringer, Eurolive, Auro, mackie etc ----- here's the link:

i just realised now, if i'm going to continue using the GR55, i need to overhaul my whole setup. different from the analog setup.
No tube amps ----> Yes to Two-way PA speakers
i also need to buy the USB isolator to get rid of my ground earth loop noise.

nice info. i think i know what i want now as I have deducted my options into two: mackie vs roland 80xl.
keeping an eye on the Roland 80XL. as per my goal is simple yet functional setup.
thanks sir elantric for the nice and informative review on the amp.
keeping an eye on the mackie as well cos I have heard a lot of good reviews about the brand but I just happened to not own one. so i might give it a try.

so guys thanks very much again, i'll just concentrate on sorting up on my amp first, hopefully a new amp will resolve my ground noise, if not, i need to sort out the noise problem, if everythings been sorted, thats the time i'll visit again to this page. thank you very much.

Hello guys. G'day. w/ reg to my GR55
If you can still remember I posted a vid of my setup wherein i connected my GR55 to the Floorboard editor in my computer.
and also if you can still remember, I'm complaining about the annoying noise/hum which messes up with my output sound.

now last night, i have confirmed that the noise came from my computer bcos I was tinkering on my GR55 which is connected to the computer with the USB printer lead/cable. it was still producing the same bad noise as before, but when i pulled out the connection of the usb printer lead/cable, it stopped the noise as well.

so i am thinking, since my computer is noisy as fk, would i better off if i just use a laptop (installed with floorboard editor) connected to my GR55 in that way i will not have that noise (cos my computer has a lot of things going on + octopus wire connection which might be the cause of noise due to electrical currents?) or should i go with a usb isolator first?

in a nutshell, im thinking of Laptop ----> connected to my GR55?

Has anyone have the same setup?

and also, i havent bought a special amp that is compatible for my GR55 yet. I'm still scouting for a 2nd hand Roland 80XL.

One time I went to the city and saw a guy busking and his acoustic connected to a JBL Eon? the sound was unbelievably clear and crisp, guitar and voice was clear and i was still hearing his sound even when i was alrdy 2 blocks away from him.

has anyone used a JBL pa here?

and w/ reg to ALTO TS112. is this a good deal?

If you are using midi only to your computer, then a 'reputable brand' USB-Midi device adapter with the 5 pin midi plugs will help, as they are optically isolated from ground loops.
A laptop will help,
but when on charge, some supplies have isolated 2 pin mains,
and some are grounded 3 pin mains plugs, the 3 pin ones still cause that noise.

A USB isolator might be the answer too.

JBL EONS are a bit dated now - I still own a pair of EON 15P - dont recommend them

The Alto TS112A's are good - or get the similar / more powerful Alesis Alpha112A  - I love mine $199 /ea ( ebay)

You can get cheap JBL's and expensive JBL's
The cheap ones are not that robust, I have a pair of 15" EON foldback wedges.
The 15" is the pitiful lightweight M150 and the horns don't like beer in them.

I think Alesis speakers,in general, are rare here in australia sir @Elantric.
I checked online unfortunately I couldn't find a shop who sells one. on the flipside, Alto is easy to find though.

InMusic is the name of the new parent company that owns Alesis, Akai, Alto, Numark, M-Audio - lots of cross pollination and badge engineering on the same product

- Alesis Alpha 112A are  produced on same assembly line as Alto TS112A but the Alesis have more power and larger HF horn , both share identical cabinet.

Guys, thank you for all your prayers and intercessions. I'm proud to announce to you that I have bought a 2nd hand Roland 80XL already. ;) it was long but it was worth the wait. grabbed a steal on this unit for 250 only. still in mint condition.

now to resume my learning of the GR55. :)

The editor is brilliant but for some strange reason it keeps crashing or losing communication after a short while.  I have it installed on two PC's, one running windows 7 64 bit and the other windows XP 32 bit.  I installed the Roland drivers but on both OS I had a dialogue box warning that the source file was older than the target file and selected the option to leave the original file intact.   Maybe there is another issue but not sure.

One other question that I cannot find info on in the help documentation is whether it is possible to copy assign settings from one patch and copy them to another patch but leave the rest of the patch settings intact?

I think you can only copy and paste entire patch settings but maybe I missed something.

hi guys.
last night i'll try to copy and paste  (or simply merging) two patches into one.
e.g. i have a good strings patch and i want copy this sound into another existing patch of electric/acoustic guitar, or anything else.
so with editor i select strings patch and copy to clipboard. then i move to guitar patch and try to paste clipboard content into that one. i have suspect that i do something wrong  ;D did you help me?
maybe i have to copy each sound into clipboard, open a blank patch, and after that i paste clipboaard content into?, thanks in advance.

OK since both questions are related, I can answer both.
The GR-55FloorBoard editor has a clipboard system, where 5 patches (or incarnations of the same patch) can be copied as from the main screen clipboards below. If a patch is copied, it's name will be displayed in the clipboard.
The clipboard paste button will paste the entire patch, so any temporary settings will be cleared away and the pasted patch displayed instead.
That is easy, you can paste/change between 5 copied/stored patches
FYI: the copied clipboard patches are saved to disk, so next time you start the GR-55FloorBoard editor, the clipboard patches are restored to the clipboards.

Another feature of the clipboards is the ability to paste just a section of a patch.
If you open an edit page, say for example, the preamp page.
You will find 5 "ClipBd Paste" buttons, each of these will paste just the preamp settings from any of the 5 saved clipboard patches into you current workings.
Same thing with the other edit pages, PCM synth, modelling, effects, and Assigns.
The extra buttons found with the Assigns also allow you to paste Assign settings from other Assigns within the same patch.

By now you may have noticed a "Bulk Write" button, this is similar to the edit page "ClipBd Paste" buttons, but instead this will write the current edit page settings only to a selectable range of User patches.
This is handy if you want to duplicate a few settings over a range of patches, but don't want to edit each patch one at a time.

Quote(or simply merging) two patches into one
As for "merging" patches, settings can be one thing or another,
do you mean just pasting a desired section of settings?,
because it doesn't work like mixing red and blue paint together to make a nice smooth purple,
it works more like mixing a bucket of red bricks with a bucket of blue bricks.
There will be compromises.

Hi Gumtown, thanks for reply.
Concerning my question, sorry 4 that, but my english acknowledge may confuse sense of what i'm asking for... :(
i understood clipboard use ( basically :) ) not so clear is how to pratically.
my intention is to create a new patch starting from two existing patches.
example? my standard patch only modelling sound with amp, effects etc copied into another one having an hammond organ, to obtain a new patch, guitar+hammond  ;D
so if i copy to clipboard these exixsting patches in theory i'm able to paste them into a blank patch?
thanks again and sorry for waste of time!

Hi there

I'm new here and only got my GR-55 a week ago.

The best thing that have happened is that I found this FloorBoard editor, makes everything so much easier, so BIG thanks for that.

I'm writing here because the GUI are looking very low res with jaggy lines, nothing like the screen shots I have seen in here.
Also I cant make the program smaller on my screen (to get a better resolution) because some of the things disappears and the are no scroll bars!

I'm wondering if I actually have the latest version. My version is 20150417

The latest version (20150417) now supports a scalable GUI/window, previously it was fixed to 1024x720.
To show off the new feature, the editor automatically scales itself to the full window resolution.
Different users will have different monitors, some have very high resolution monitors (UHD), while others have 1280x720 laptops or less resolution.

At high resolution the graphics will look quite jaggy or grainy as the base size is 1024x720 and up scaled from there.
A future update might see all the graphics re-made at a higher resolution.

To resize the window, go to the editor "Settings/Preferences > Window" menu and 'uncheck' the "Auto Window Scaling" option.
Then manually select a scale ratio "Resizing Scale" with the up/down spin-box control,
then press OK to save the preferences,
then close and restart the editor program for the resizing to take effect.

EDIT: corrected version 20150417 - was a year out.
