My VG-99 should arrive in a few days. In the mean time, I've purchased an APC-33 bracket and I have several other stand pieces. My DIY project is to build a rack to hold the VG-99, my eBand JS-8, DR Rhythm DR-880, possibly my Amp.  I'm going for a portable do-it-all station that I can set-up for rehearsal or small gigs. I like the idea that set-up and tear down are the same process each time regardless of what I'm doing. It makes it less mentally intensive and I don't have to worry about reinventing the wheel each time I set-up...  I'll include pictures as I get the rack built. Suggestions are always cool.

Its clumsy and heavy, but I use a grinder base as a stand. Its almost knock-over-proof, and because its more than a pole welded to a big rim it looks ok too.

UPDATE:  Wow. I just got my APC-33 bracket that I learned about from this forum. what an absolutely cool tip and awesome piece of money saving equipment from this forum!!! I might just have to incorporate one or two more of these brackets into my project. That might diminish some of the cost savings, but its such a professional looking end result it has a lot of appeal rather then going the woodblock route as I've seen done. This forum is soooo cool...  pictures coming as soon as I get the rack assembled. It's going to hold a VG-99, JS-8, and DR-880. Now if I can integrate a place to hold my amp and get it all on casters for ease of movement on stage and still be able to disassemble for transport, I'll have the winner I'm looking for...

Couple thoughts on parts for building a DIY VG-99 /VB-99 stand

The 4-bolt pattern on the bottom of the VG-99 / VB-99 is common to the Roland V-Drum Brain Modules, SPD-SX, BK-7M,  and those are far more plentiful than VG-99s! Google for "Roland V-Drum Stand" yields good results for DIY stand options.

Pintech Metal Module Mount - $22

Roland MDP-7 is similar ($16 at Sweetwater)

The Roland APC-33 is a universal clamp worth knowing about too: Typically $45

If you want the official  VG-99 stand - the Roland PDS10 is typically $160

Hard to tell on the picture for the MDP7 as to what the stem piece is.....is it just designed to fit in a clamp for a drum stand or is the stem threaded so it can be screwed onto a stand like a mic stand?

datsunrobbie

I just picked up the MDP7. The base is not threaded. It fits perfectly into an old Ludwig 7/8" tom arm, which makes for a cheap alternative to the PDS10

pedwards2932

Thanks that is what I needed....just needed to know what type of stand I would need to go with it.

pedwards2932

Well I got the MDP7 and something I found that is interesting is it fits perfectly in my music stand.  It is the type that looks like a speaker stand. You can get them for about $40.  So I will have a complete stand for under $60.

Sorry to wale an  old thread but could you give an example of the type of music stand you're referring to?

They have gone up a bit in price.....might find it for a better price if you look around but this is what I got:  http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/on-stage-stands-conductor-stand-with-wide-wooden-bookplate

I've made a base that allows to mount the VG-99 at any standard photo or instrument tripod.

Just two aluminium plates, the second one used to locate the locking nut inside.
