I've got 28 minutes to go.  I'll install it on my secondary partition and see how the Roland Gear I have fares with it.

Steve - feel free to post this in a more appropriate sub-board - I'm not sure where we are discussing computer related topics of late.

AFAIK Roland hasn't issued drivers for Yosemite.  At least not for the GR-55.

The following equipment still works via USB after installing OS X Yosemite:

-Roland VG-99
-Boss RC-300
-M Audio Fast Track
-Alesis iO2 Express

The following equipment does not appears to work via USB after installing OS X Yosemite:

-MAudio MIDIsport 2x2

VG99 has been discontinued so I guess we won't see any driver upgrade for newest OSes, right?

It works fine on Yosemite - I updated my pre-existing OS and the VG-99 still is seen by the OS and audio processing apps.

In fact, I tested 5 pieces of audio equipment and only one didn't work with Yosemite.

Beware... When doing upgrades it might work but when doing a fresh install you need specific drivers as the old ones (Mavericks) won't even install on newest.. that's why for the moment I do not upgrade. However thank you for your testing! At least I know that if the upgrade is pushed it will destroy only 1 unit we have in common..MIDISPORT 2x2.. :-)

The USB driver doesn't work with my GP-10 in Yosemite - I haven't tried my GR-55 yet but guess it might be the same issue. Had to boot from a backup drive to make some edits with Tone Studio.

Roland USB Drivers - Get latest Status

Its well known that Roland drags its heels on releasing updated drivers, and specifically why i recommend folks who wish to remain productive to review the Roland Driver status page for their Operating System and use google search to read up on current status of working drivers for all your other gear you rely on for work.

Note when seeking straight info in these matters, I always go to the source - link below I bookmark (and re-check weekly) is the Roland Japan Corporate site - Not Roland US/UK/DE/IT/FR - as those are only distributors and they typically have stale  / no information

* Notice drivers for many favorites (GR-55, VG-99,VB-99,RC-505) remain missing  (Oct.2013)  Check Each Link above weekly, as more products are added.

and download the zip file there too.

Dealing with Computers and Audio for 35 years now, Ive learned its always best to stay a year or two behind the bleeding edge, and Never upgrade an operating system on the day of release.
If you update your Operating System on day or release , expect 3-6 months of non productivity while waiting for broken Drivers to be fixed by all the third parties who create the drivers/apps  for your gear
We live and die by USB / Firewire Drivers - and those often take months to be ironed out / debugged.

I have lots a great Computer Audio Interfaces  - but they are now relegated to the obsolete bin,  strictly because of lack of Drivers for currently used operating systems.

Try re-installing OS 10.9 driver for GR-55 after installing OS X Yosemite. It worked for me - works like a charm again, both for audio and midi.

I received an email offsite about someone with an RC-300 not having any luck with Yosemite.
It worked with the previous version but after Yosemite the OS won't see it.
I've asked him some questions if system profile sees the RC as a USB device or not but no reply yet.

The one thing I did that may or may not have made any difference is both my VG-99 and RC-300 were on and running when I did the OS upgrade.

Update:

The user, Patrick H was able to get it going again.

I was able to get it working. Thanks for your hints.
In my case I had to uninstall the version of the driver that she had (which apparently worked with Mavericks)
and install a new version which works.

So.....if you have the same experience give that a shot.

Native Instruments message

Native Instruments has conducted compatibility tests with Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite which have shown current NI products to work without any specific issues under standard installations of this operating system.

However, products with a hardware dependency, such as MASCHINE, KOMPLETE KONTROL, TRAKTOR, GUITAR RIG, and Controller Editor will not launch when the AVID CoreAudioManager/Drivers are installed under 10.10 Yosemite. Native Instruments and Avid are working together to resolve this compatibility issue.

Native Instruments is currently conducting further systematic compatibility and performance tests with the release version of Yosemite, and will provide new information as it becomes available.

Best regards,

The Native Instruments team

Yosemite is identified as 10.1 (dropping the 0)
and does not pass the requirements of many third party app / driver installers

Heres a link to a OSX Version change tutorial that is a work around for older OSX drivers and OSX apps to actually load and work in Yosemite

Tutorial: Change Mac OS X System Version
By Justin
As I've said in a previous post, nearly the exact same process (that is, editing the systemversion.plist file) is used for this as for changing the iPhone OS version, since OSX and iPhone OS are based on the same core, but I'm writing this with more desktop OSX-specific steps and screenshots.

I suppose the question would arise, "Why would one want to do this?" On Leopard, it is incredibly useful in situations where one may wish to install software that claims to require an update that you don't want to install. I'll be demonstrating on Snow Leopard, but the procedure is the same on both. In my demonstration, I will be changing the version number from 10.6.2 to 10.7.0. This has no practical use, but will suffice for demonstration purposes.

So, when you say that Yosemite recognizes the VG99, does it also recognize and run the Editor and the Library?  Or do I have to stay with Mountain Lion for that to happen?

aliensporebomb

Well since I last posted this I had a hard drive problem on my main system.  System was writing to disc when there was a power glitch at the house and despite having two industrial strength surge suppressors it made my system unbootable and I was unable to repair the boot partition.

I had to start over and reinstall the OS after I reformatted the disc.  I could back up the data from the original system but not get it bootable in any form.

I was unable to use the migration assistant to copy the data I backed up to restore so I started from scratch.
I copied a lot of data back manually.

You win some....

The VG-99 Editor and Librarian now copy to:
Macintosh Hard Drive\Applications\Roland

They may have done this before but in my previous system they were floating loose in Hard Drive\Applications.

Verified VG-99 and FC-300 still work fine.  Verified Boss RC-300 works fine.  Pretty much everything that worked fine when I upgraded my system works now.

Which  Roland VG-99 USB Driver do you use and what steps do you use to  install it in OSX Yosemite?

Beirne

FYI, with all things MAC OSX and updates I do this...

Clone my hard drive with superduper to another drive. And its bootable too! So its like having 2 computers. old and new.

Install updates like mavericks. Find out half my hardware and software (like roland editors for xv2020 synths and stuff) dont work.

Keep old backed up bootable drive with snow leopard or old osx to boot up with when I need to edit my old gear.

This wont work with a post 2014 Mac as they dont run mountain lion. only Mavericks and newer.

I'm having some issues with Apogee Gio under Yosemite - it does work but in certain circumstances it freezes mainstage (such as changing concerts) - after about 5 min wait time I get a generic message about 3rd party midi drivers - force shutting the app then taking the usb out and in normally clears this but sometimes I have to reboot the Mac
Not what I was expecting to be honest :-(
Maybe I should just use patch change on the guitar and the XY pad for exp control and get a focus rite 2i4 and not bother with foot control ?

Elantric

Yosemite is presenting problems for many Audio interfaces  - I suspect its best to inform Apogee and Apple regarding your specific problem.

I'm still on Snow Leopard for my working Music computer  - and testing Mavericks on an iMac

I find its best to use "last years"  OSX version because it can take 6 months for Pro audio to get debugged.

Headless68

I has sent the dump report to Apple - Apogee are quoting the driver as Yosemite compliant on the website. I will hold off when the next OS gets released - still massively impressed with the performance of the mac for audio :-)
