Check out this Roland demo (link below)  - there are some sound bite examples then an excellent demo tune starting at 3:20

There is a sound which kicks in at 3:37 (sort of sliced synth sound) - I have gone through all the patches on the old VG8.com archive (including a bank from Nick Cooper) but I cant find anything which matches this sound - any ideas on this one ?

Roland used to produce Video Owners manuals back in the mid 1990's

I had the Boss GT-5 Video Manual by Nick Cooper   - was excellent

Here the info for the
VG-8 VIDEO MANUAL by Gary Cooke (Roland US)
(Item #VG-8VM) $40.00

The VG-8 took years to create, but you can master it almost instantly with this video manual. COSM, models, preamps, effects, virtual pickups, polyphonic pitch shifting and the VG8S-1 System Expansion... it's all here and it couldn't be any easier.

explains many important VG-8 programming concepts

and don't forget to join the Yahoo VG-8 Group - the Files area there still holds many important VG-8 files

FWIW - I have recently zipped up all VG-8 / VG-8EX patches from the yahoo VG-8 Group and these can be downloaded as one ZIP file here

Thanks for that zip file - was spot on for getting everything in one hit
I have spent several hours auditioning everything and making a bank of my favs - there is a lot of work gone into them

......another reason to get on the VG8 revival :-)

Just bought a VG8  :) Did you manage to find the slicer sound? I've love the 'on the run' style VC3 bubbly synth at 3.11 did that show up?

Thanks

Sean

I couldn't find any patch with that on - none of Nick Coopers patches which are in there feature it - I even had a quick google / Facebook for him to ask him direct how he did it but didn't find him

If anyone figures it out please share :-)

Thanks :) It's the second time I've had one (first time was in the late 90s) but I lamented the loss of some of the sounds when I sold it to get the VG88. I'm glad I bought it again and it was so cheap (considering the original cost) and worth it for the bowed and pipe sounds alone  :)

I did exactly the same as you - just got back into the VG8 this year - I'm finding it blends very well working with the VG-99 at the moment

Hi
The slicing sound is a part of the backing track. He uses the same track in the Gt5 Video Owner's Manual.

Not just my sound programming skills then :-)
