Hi, new to the forum and new to the GT-1.

Having problems with my laptop not recognising the GT-1. Followed all the required instructions, but after going through the download and installation process the driver hasn't downloaded.

The message is: 'Windows found driver software for device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. Driver not installed (code 28) - no compatible drivers for this device'.  :-[ :-[

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

Tony

Its typical Windows 10 pain

Many folks  setup (and then forgot) they had configured  a Windows Group Policy to prevent forced Win10 updates from Microsoft
https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/08/26/windows-10-how-to-stop-forced-updates/#6ed2d1a846f6

- but you must disable that  before you can obtain the Boss GT-1 USB driver (Microsoft delivers these now)

Read the "README file here,
https://www.boss.info/us/support/by_product/gt-1/updates_drivers/bad11b59-af33-4f2e-a947-cc629e8fa6dc/
and follow the instructions GT-1 USB Driver Manual install

----
Install the driver manuallyDepending on the Internet connectivity, the driver may not be installed automatically. If this is the case, follow the procedure below to install the driver.1. Use a USB cable to connect the GT-1 to your computer.
2.Right-click the start button and then click "Device Manager".
3.In the View menu, click "Devices by type".
4.Click "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices" to display the GT-1 device.
5.When the GT-1 device appears, right-click it, and then select "Update Driver Software".
6.Select "Search automatically for updated driver software".
Your PC starts searching the internet  for the GT-1 USB driver, and the driver is installed automatically.( assuming the Microsoft Server is not down for maintenance)
The installation is completed if the "Windows has successfully updated your driver software" message is displayed. Click "Close".

If the "System Settings Change" dialog box appears, click [Yes] to restart Windows.

Thanks for the info. Tried the manual update, but wasn't aware that I had to disable forced updates. Will give it a try tomorrow, had enough of messing around and getting frustrated today!

By default - updates from microsoft should be enabled - but many folks get annoyed with the loss of productivity with many device driver incompatibilities being introduced with each major Win10 update

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4018124/windows-10-update-history

Windows 10 Version 1703 "broke" my synaptics touchpad driver on my laptop

- so many Win10 users have setup up a Windows Group Policy config setting to prevent these updates - but forget that this will prevent you from attaching new hardware to your machine and obtaining proper device drivers.

Also its important to have a really good high speed internet connection with your Win10 machine anytime you are attempting to install new hardware device drivers ( Boss GT-1)

Its really annoying and shows Microsoft's Win10 agenda of discriminating against anyone with a  poor  / slow internet connection.

Explains why I'm sticking with Win8.1, and seeking a Linux solution

Thanks for your info/help - However I have tried everything and it still doesn't work. My PC recognises that the GT-1 is connected to the USB, but that the 'driver is unavailable'. I'm baffled!!

Cheers,
