I don't like the concept of sounds crammed into a guitar, I need foot-control to switch between guitar and synth.
Also: are these just preprogrammed presets? Can you do your own? What about Hex-Distortion, etc...
We'll have to wait...

But thanks for pointing me toward strandberg guitars.
Interesting concept, lightweight, maybe something for my  future (If they build one with 13-pin or a EHX builds a GR300-in-a-box for 1/4-Plug). I don't know yet if I love or hate the design though.

It was  just preprogrammed presets "Closed system"  =  no editing,  no GK 13 pin connectivity to other VG or GR synth gear, no USB  / no Bluetooth  / no WIDI  to a computer ( = no interest for me )

The Boss GP-10  does a whole lot more !

reingarnichts

That's very disappointing.
Even my GP10 is better then (and has probably the best sound/weight-ratio ;) ).
I don't know, a 13-pin-out-option for strandbergs would probably be better than this. :/

BMapson

No 13-pin out, no dice.

They're certainly beautiful instruments, though.  It seems that many of the more skilled members here could easily hack the guitar to deliver what is needed, but it would've been nice to include a 13-pin out since they went through the trouble of including the hex pickup and all those electronics.

Which is now a real possibility with the Cycfi Research Nu Multi pickup and 13-pin Breakout Board:

Ah, I have been following that development for quite some time now. Would liketo try one, but the price is a bit heavy just for some trial&error.
(Also: Never change a running system ;) )

Are they powered by the external GK-gear (+/-7V) or do you still need an extra battery?

Best to follow the Cycfi blog, and contact the developer for a price quote - bulk of their interesting gear is never available in the online store

Onboard BOSS V-Guitar Tech for Powerful Versatility and Maximum Sonic Creativity

BOSS's famous V-Guitar technologies are the perfect complement to the innovative, modern design approach of the Strandberg Boden. Via a multi-position mode selector, you have quick access to all types of modeled humbucking and single-coil guitar pickups, plus bass sounds, acoustic guitars, synths, and more. And with a twist of the tuning knob, you can go from standard tuning to five different down tunings, all without adjusting the actual string tension at all! The V-Guitar tech is powered by four AA batteries, and you can easily monitor battery status from the front of the instrument. And don't worry—if the batteries ever run out, you can seamlessly switch to standard Boden guitar operation without a hitch.
Mode Selector Functions

The V-BDN has a five-position mode selector knob that provides access to 25 onboard sounds. Each position makes five different sounds available from the guitar's five-way blade selector switch.
Position 1—Engages the guitar's normal humbucking pickups.
Position 2—Modeled single-coil pickup sounds.
Position 3—Modeled humbucking pickup sounds.
Position 4—Hybrid sounds: bass; humbucker w/octave down on strings 5 and 6; electric sitar; nylon-string acoustic; steel-string acoustic.
Position 5—Synthesizer: string synth lead; synth organ; GR-300 lead variations (octave down, normal, octave up).
Tuning Knob Functions

The six-position tuning knob on the V-BDN provides instant access to standard tuning and five virtual down tunings.
Position 1—Standard tuning.
Position 2—E flat tuning (all strings a semitone down).
Position 3—D tuning (all strings a whole step down).
Position 4—Drop D (D-A-D-G-B-E).
Position 5—Drop C♯ (C♯-G♯-C♯-F♯-A♯-D♯).
Position 6—Drop C (C-G-C-F-A-D).

Too bad about the cosmetics, but nice to see new hex guitar products!

Cups

Now if they were to release that tech with the hex pickup in a dual pedal format I bet it might sell. Dumbed down modelling a la EHX.

Roland is on the the right path. Good job!

Aesthetically, it's not the kind of guitar I like, but I appreciate the fact that Roland is investing in innovative design. And I'm happy to see that Roland has not abandoned GK technology - it opens the way for new products who might interest me. At first, the fact of not having an exit to the GK pickup made me upset. But I see other uses for this guitar. I think it used in conjunction with an AX8 fractal, for example, can be very interesting. It's not yet the Roland product that I hope to buy - a new GP-10, GR-55 or VG99 - but I was pleased, hopeful.

All GK-13 outputs for past 30 years are "6 channel ANALOG output"

It would be my defitintive V-Guitar, only if I can program other models inside or access an external processor.

Everything about this screamed "My dream guitar"...

...until I saw that it didn't have a 13-pin connector. Come on, Roland! You invented the bloody thing.

Yes, it offers a lot out of the box, and I for one love the aesthetic. But I would love the option to pair that with the VG-99... three signal paths!

Sigh.

Roland G5 Strat / Fender VG Strat- can 13 pin connector be added? (like GC1)
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=1648.msg8975#msg8975

There is an optional "remote power adapter", requiring a separate DC power cable

Matteo Barducci

So it seems to me that the V-BDN is essentially a VG Strat inside a more refined body and with more presets(and an easier way to access them).

Definitely disappointing.

Looks quite interesting to me, but then I have a loved selection of techy guitars that flopped!

Shame about the 13 pin missing though, I wonder who thought that would be a good idea.

Anyone got any idea of price?

The Strandberg V-BDN is a page from Line-6 playbook, rather like the James Tyler Variax paradigm which gave Line-6 more acceptance / perception of prestige in the competitive guitar marketplace.

if they only sell 100 - thats 1/2 a million dollars gross revenue

I'll wait for the Waza version ;)

I have deleted an earlier comment as I have decided to comply to the maxim: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."  I suspect I will be entering a long period of monastic silence in all matters Roland.

Thank you for making me think about that..I think I will join you...   :-X
