ROLAND GR-55 sounds of Heroes
To transmit the sounds of the heroes (SDH) for the GR-55 you need a USB stick that works well with the GR-55.
Please insert the USB stick only remove or, if the GR-55 is off - this is the security for the data on the
USB stick contained data.
First, the user's own data are secured GR-55. The next step is that file on your computer
saved and replaced by the SDH file. The GR-55 maintains a backup file named "GR-55.SVD.

First Backup your own patches and settings in the GR-55 data stored on the USB stick

  3. Open the "ROLAND" folder, and includes a "Sound" folder.
  4. Copy the file "GR55.SVD" and save to your computer.
  5. Replace the "GR55.SVD" file on the USB stick with the "GR55.SVD"from the "Sounds of Heroes" website.
WARNING: This file may NOT be renamed, as the GR-55 you do not use more then!

switch, described in the user guide on page 9.
... NOW AND ENJOY THE SOUNDS OF THE HEROES OF THE GR-55!

Make sure you Backup your GR-55 to USB memory stick and store the Backup file (which will have the same name as Gundy's package file) in a safe place, as this will be your entire GR-55 backed up.
Loading Gundy's file will overwrite the entire GR-55, including the System/Global settings, so your GR-55 will be a clone of Gundy's, including the GK P.U. settings.

I might suggest saving the new patches with the Librarian or Editor as patch files, and re-loading your own backup, and loading in the new patches with your own setup & GK settings.

Then some kind soul could possibly save each of the 53 patches From Sounds of the Heroes as individual G5L files and upload them into our patch area.

I'd be seriously curious about the settings on the Santana patch.  Is there any way of extracting the specifics?

I am uploading the patches in g5l format right now. They are as good as any user patches though.

Thanks for the work guys.  I didn't want to mess with them til they were in the librarian format.  Yall were quick!  Also, I was surprised to see Gundy's string sensitivity settings were so high.

All:

How would I go about "examining" the patches for settings if I don't own a GR-55?  What do I need to download?

I want to create some VG-99 counterparts....

(Ah, downloaded the editor: opened the patch...stay tuned...)

Use Gumtown's  GR-55 Floorboard program to load the G5L file and view each patch's settings.

Hi Aliensporebomb

lots of the GR55 patches from Gundy have already been created for the VG99

Hello Papabuss!

I see it's a dreaded .g9l file which I can open in the librarian and see that it's 62 different patches but I want to extract particular one or two particular patches out of that whole set so I don't have to wipe out my current VG-99 setup/programming just to try them.

Is there an easy way to do this?  I'd preferably want to do it this way since I have gigs coming up and if my whole VG-99 the way it currently is gets wiped out I'll likely turn pale and keel over.

Hi
you can mark those which you want to load up and those you won't ..
If you choose seperate ones it's a midi file so it doesn't overwrite your main settings

Hope I could help you

I was able to copy the patch I wanted from the list in Gundy's patch set and paste it into a new untitled document but it appears that it still saves it as a .g9l format file.  I'll try it....it didn't seem obvious how to save it as .mid

Using the VG-99 Editor - here is how to save as a SMF *.MID file

And

This document "INFOCUS02.pdf" is a "MUST READ" for all VG-99 owners, it walks you through how to use the  Roland Librarian.

But FWIW - there already exists a direct VG-99  "Sounds of the Heroes" here:

Elantric:  Thanks - I've known how to backup and restore my own patches but the librarian was always a bit confusing - why was there multiple file formats for saving and restoring?  I understand the g9l files had multiple
patches and the .mid files were single patches but the whole thing seemed cobbled together goofily.

OK I'll read the infocus (wish I'd found that two years ago).  Oof!

I am uploading the patches in g5l format right now. They are as good as any user patches though.

Am having some problems getting any usable sounds from these patches, have downloaded in g5l format as per above and loaded into GR-55 via librarian...all good so far...., the patches sound very flat and all the same, they certainly don't replicate the Artist names or sounds. I deliberately did it this way so as to not overwrite my existing settings and patches. Am I missing something simple?

Or should I back up my existing settings/patches, upload the original file and then reinstall my own patches afterwards, will this make a difference or stuff up my original User Patches?

The names on the patches sound great and it would be good to try them out, any help appreciated.

PS I have downloaded many other patch files from the site, auditioned and modified to my taste in Gumtowns Editor, loaded to GR-55 and all work well.

Thanks from Brisbane Australia.

I have also experienced a similar problem with the librarian.  The GR-55 changed the name on the display, but nothing else changed.  After I closed the librarian, shut off/on the GR-55 and re-started the librarian, everything worked as expected.

There are many useful and different patches within the Gundy Keller file.

Correct. This is the best approach to take prior to trying Any GR-55 patch you obtain from the net.

Hey guys I loaded the .gl5 file on the Librarian, but it only shows the 40 Guitar Patches.  Although I want them, I mainly play in Bass Mode.

Did I miss something in the process?? Has anyone uploaded the gl5 version of the Gundy Keller file in Bass Mode??  'Cause I looked over the bass area, and couldn't find anything.

Thanks

Elantric

Probably because 90% of us here are Guitar players, I figure the"Sounds of the Heroes"  Bass patches were not converted into GR-55 Librarian format yet.

Why not start at the top post in this thread, do the conversion, and share?
