OK here goes...

Anyone have any hints for getting a good Money For Nothing tone?
Or a nice SRV Little Wing patch?

Can anyone get a good Howard Roberts tone out of the 99?

You know, it might be a good idea to make this thread a sticky, and to ask people to post any patches done by requests from this thread, in a separate thread. I am not sure if that is clearly stated. In other words, I just requested a Howard Roberts patch. If someone makes such a patch, they would then post their "reply" not in this thread in a new thread in the VG-99 Patches subforum. So this thread will contain ONLY patch requests. And a mod could mark each "answered" patch request as being answered.

I wish to create a patch to recreate Lenny Kravitz's "Are you gonna go my way". I need some help with this. Am at the point where I am about 40% comfortable with my '99. When I finally sold my '88 I feel as though I was at about 90% (never really used the midi side of things, couldn't really see the point if all I could ultimately do with it was change patch parameters).

The plan is this:

* I intend to use a few adjacent patches for different parts of the song. Basically using each pedal as a stomp box. (it is here that I miss the Zoom 8080's reverb/delay overlap function...no cut notes, no jarring transitions). The reason for this is that I also want to recreate the stereo placing of the guitar. (another gripe....stereo amp models could achieve this effect much better, but anyway)

* Amp and distortion pedal....which ones?

* EQ damping for verses to avoid clouding the vocal (perhaps I could assign a pedal)

*Octave pedal for low guitar harmony....real guitar on Right, octave guitar on Left

* Cleanish amp with mono phaser for middle section

* A toggle switch which goes from on to off, (or an approximation of this since the cosm toggle switch does not work in two independent halves like a real Gibson.)

*Perhaps a wah for the solo

Will post what I have got so far when I figure out how to exchange individual patches....

Kravitz is in the "Helden" patch elsewhere on the forums. It doesn't give you the whole song but it's a starting point.

Hi guys,
Brand new here, VG99 and Godin xtsa on their way! Can't wait. Would ultimately like to simulate the acoustic style Craig Chaquico sound.
Thanks!

Has anyone come up with some good Metheny patches yet? I know there's one in the "heroes" library, but it's not quite there yet, at least to my ears. The sound I'm referring to is on "End of the Game," "Are you Going with Me" and countless other tunes. Metheny somehow has this super fluid sound, and a brilliance in the tone without a lot of treble. I've been trying to get the EQ right, but each time, after a few hours, my ears burn out. Just wondering if anyone has nailed it yet. In the meantime, I'll see if I can get any closer.

Yeah I know what you mean about ear-burnout.

Perhaps what we should do in this case, since we now have UNLIMITED space to store our patches is create four or five variations, which all come pretty close and sound similar to each other. Then next time we come back to it, with fresh ears we can work out which one came closest and then continue to chip away.

Some of these sounds could take weeks or months to nail....

Not a bad idea. I agree, some patches take a long time to tweak to perfection. Which is also a compliment to the VG, having such a vast array of tools and colors to work with. I try to stay focused when I'm editing patches, but it doesn't always work out that way. I change something and it starts going in a completely different direction than originally intended. My focus is no match against my curiosity.

Has anyone got a good patch to reproduce David Gilmore's quiet solo work in the opening cut of Wish You Were Here?

I've always been fascinated with that combined crystalline/distorted tone

Thanks

Shine on you crazy diamond?

This could be an epic thread....

First of all you might want to find a patch called Floydish. Hit an open G, then freeze it.

Groove around in G minor for a bit on the other channel. Do this for a few minutes....

Then find yourself a nice clean strat through a Mesa Boogie.....

Then grab a nice slow Phaser, increase your distortion...
{Will try and post some patches and audio samples}

To be continued....

Virtual Tone

U2

1.  Streets

2.  Beautiful Day (That synthy sound in the middle on his guitar too)

3.  Vertigo

4.  I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

5.  Mysterious Ways

6.  New Years Day

But especially The Edge's LIVE sound.

Perhaps we can cop his sounds when the U2 3D movie goes to DVD.   ;D

Anyone help with sound Tom Waits uses on stuff like Heart Attack and Vine?

TIA

How about the wah solo from Dixie Dreg's "What If" ?  I have no idea how to get that sharp wah and which of the 5 pickups Steve Morse is using.

Could somebody assist me with creating a VAN HALEN - CATHEDRAL patch...and/or a volume swell with delay.  I'm trying to convert my patches from my current rig to this for live playing and I'm running into some glitches.  You help is greatly appreciated.

Hi All. good day everyone. Just a request if anyone has come up with.... Tuck Andress ( 1953 Gibson L-5 CES or 1949 Gibson L-5 CES) sound? Just curious..... If you have one.... pls.post. Thank you!

OK, guilty pleasure time. Just heard a flash-back clip of the solo from Hair-Band Archetypes White Lion's "classic" song Wait.  I want that no-attack, no grit, ultra-smooth 80s sound! Is it in the 99? Can it be done? Prove it to me!

Listen to it here:

http://snipr.com/3j50w-zqdbe8

It's not that I'm still into that sort of music, or even that sound so much (altho I do recall buying the tab for this solo back in the day...:)). But I do think it could be a cool starting point for a lot of sounds I would enjoy. But I'm basically wondering WHERE amongst all the amps and overdrives on the 99 would one even start looking for such a sound: NOT crunchy, not gritty, not metallic, not particularly dynamic (OK, it's obviously compressed...), not breaking up, not grainy, not bright, but not muted either... Surely this was once a bread'n'butter sound, no? Where would YOU start?

Thanks for any tips!!

Anyone able to reproduce Andy Latimer (Camel) sound?

rcknrllmn

Anyone have an idea on getting some of the ray-gun effects by Stevie Stevens, such as in Rebel Yell & other songs?
I'm not sure where to start on this patch.   Thanks

Rojoyinc

Camel would be nice -   I'm surprised there isn't a Hendrix?  com'on!  Hendix!?!?

My reasonf or posting in here is to request  A bi-monthly - or even yearly ZIP of ALL patches.  Downloading each little mid is okay if looking for one thing. but would be nice to do one  ZIP - unpack them in a dir and just load and test each.

Why all the tedious little msgs, and downloads?  (to coinside with the editior/librarian tedium?)   ;D

hehehe  gotta keep it consistant!

Hi, I just bought a VG-99 and have been trying to emulate the sound of Ian Moss's setup from the Cold Chisel Song "Forever Now". I was wondering if someone with a bit more experience could have a go at it or tell me what settings I might need. Cheers :D
