Hey Folks, i'm lucky with organ and bass sounds on the SY300, but absolute can not figure out how to build more string an brass like sounds. Any suggestions?
By the way: merry Christmas!

While you won't get uber-realistic instrument results out of the SY; you can get some great stuff nonetheless. RolandVG99 (user here) posted some awesome string and trumpet sounds and patches:

Here's a soundclip of a few of these presets I did:

The Funky Brass patch from Tone Central is good for the Casio keyboard brass type sounds:

Do you have a book like A Synthesist's Guide to Acoustic Instruments? Not all of the ideas work with the SY-300, but it should get you in the neighborhood and will give you an idea of what is possible and what won't work well on this device. It would help you become familiar with what the different waveforms sound like and how to use filters, EGs, and so on.

@Szilard: I'm from germany, not sure i can get the book here - do you think it's worth to order it expensive from the states? Interesting for sure...

It's a good book, it explains how to get each sound on different types of synthesizers, but I got it back when it was published; now all the information is online. You can google how to program analog/analog emulation synths.

Here's an example.

The key settings are the waveform, filter, and amp. The guy in video above points out something interesting - one difference between strings and brass is the filter setting. Raising the filter cutoff brightens the sound and lowering it makes it darker. Relatively subtle changes in tone change how we perceive a sound.

So, this is what i get so far: The set includes a still verry synthetic "Cello",  also something i build for playing Slide Guitar and a Organ
Sorry, no mp3 - i first have to find a solution to record here....
