Hi!

I'm trying to obtain a sound like this (start at 2.00)

Any suggestion? Can someone help me?

thanks!

Gosh, that's a cool piece of music.   I remember PFM from their "Cook" days.

Patch 12 on the Boss GP-10 is nearly a dead ringer for it and the pedal lets you do the swoop down at the end of the solo.

Not sure about the SY-300 - anyone?

I don't remember a preset that sounds like it, I can't try right now.
But I'd go for 1-2 square osc and 1 sine osc , detune , and filter etc
The pitch dive should work fine

I play Country music too, I'm just not sure which country it's from...

Part of the sound is the portamento and with the sy 300 you need to supply it with technique since it doesn't have real oscillators. As you program it don't forget to add portamento or it won't sound the same ... The drop in pitch could be done with portamento or an expression pedal controlling OSC pitch.

Isn't portamento possible to simulate with the pitch envelope attack , depth etc ?
Maybe I'm not remembering it clearly , but I think so , can't test it now as said.

The sy-300 won't know if you're going from hi-to-low or low-to-hi so I don't think you could use the pitch envelope attack.

No that's correct I just tried it, you can create an illusion of portamento but it's really nothing of the sort

I think I can replicate in some way the portamento effect with my guitar whammy bar, and maybe 1 octave pitch bend control on my exp pedal can help with major portamento moments.
What I can't reach is the sound itself.
I'm new with synth programming, I used to have a line6 M5 and there I had a moog sound with very few tweaking.
Can someone send me a patch that I could use as start point for that tune?

thanks!

aliensporebomb

Yep!  Use the whammy or slide your hand down the fingerboard!

Just spent 2 hours programming, today, and didn't go even colse to that sound  :-X

I can try after Saturday but this is a synth like no other , and what you feed into it,
determines a lot regarding what's coming out. So I wouldn't count on getting close at one try
and this box is hard to get a grip on. I both like it and hate it :)

Yes, I know it's an hard work, but I'd appreciate of you give it a try, Brakeman!

I kind of look at the SY-300 as sort of a product like the GR-300:  both had blue boxes, both had limitations that if you worked within produced amazing results.  I think it would be fun to work with one as I'd use a lot of external processing to achieve the kind of results I'd want.

Here is what I got in half an hour
it all depends on your guitar , and your input sensitivity how it's going to sound
I played it with neck Pu and tone all the way down
and in headphones so..
its nowhere close to the original but something to work on maybe
Ctr 1 2 octave dive
as I said I'm both happy and annoyed with this box

Thanks for your attempt, Brakeman!

This is my patch.... pretty different from the original moog, but I think it will sound very powerful live!
