Hi, I don't work for Thomann or anything, but I've been using them for a while and spotted the GK-Kit going cheap so thought I'd give you all a heads-up!

I bought one for £75 after buying one last year for £105, so I thought this was a pretty good deal.

Feel free to delete or move this if it's inappropriate  ;D

nice one, been toying with the idea of fitting a kit to my strat. are these kits easy to fit? i am a joiner so no probs with the woodwork just the electronics that frightens me a bit. when installed how does the mag pickups work? are they linked up to the gk kit?

Elantric

Internal GK Kits always require serious woodworking skills  - find a Luthier.

Yes they are. You connect inside the guitar. I've done two GK-kits into Ibanez and Fender strat. Strats are easiest(less woodwork). A Dremel tool is always needed.
But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

like i said i am joiner/carpenter. been doing fine craft detail for many years. routers and all the tools to hand. does the kit just connect together ,ie 13pin connection to the pickup and buttons and the likes. i assume the mags connection is soldered to the gk in some way which allows it still be used as a mags only guitar?

You should have no problem with the woodwork as long as you are confident with a router (which I'm sure you are). Don't worry about the electronics there are a few soldered joints to make for which you need a small iron and a steady hand but most of the connections are pre-wired, plug-ins.

I've done a PRS http://guitarsynthesiser.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/prs-se-custom-24-adding-internal-roland.html and an Ibanez http://guitarsynthesiser.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/ibanez-rg870-adding-internal-roland.html so far and I'm not a joiner.

Sean, if you can do the woodwork it's pretty easy , their is only a little soldering ,mostly its plug and play. Good luck Paul

I tried to order a bass kit from a dealer here in the UK who advertises the guitar internal kit, and he got back to me and said he couldn't, as it was a discontinued item.

Being a cynical sort, I thought I'd check with Roland UK, who confirmed it is indeed a discontinued item with nothing showing to replace it!

Thomann in Germany still have some stock, so I ordered one from them at £71 plus shipping.
If anyone has been toying with getting one, DO IT NOW!!!!  ( He Shouted! )

PS, the GR55 in bass mode is really, really good, it was only coz I have a bass with an external GK for my V Bass I tried it.
Now I've convinced our bass player he needs one so he needn't whinge when I want a songs key changing..... :o

But back to the point, no more internal kits for bass after remaining stocks are sold!

PS I've also ordered an internal kit for the red guitar in my avatar, and there are apparently no imminent plans to discontinue that.

Please forgive me if this is old news, but a search on the site didn't bring up anything about this.....

One final thing, anybody else using an Epiphone EB3 with the V Bass / GR55?

Regards,

TeeJay

Just saw this post now,
I did enquire just last week to my local Roland/Boss dealer about the GK-KIt-BG3,
they said they didn't have one in stock.

So I too have just ordered from Thomann a bass GK internal kit.

50 euro delivery costs to NZ though.. owch !!

Just arrived today  :)
A bit surprised to see it arrive in a 12" cubed box, with loads of bubble packaging, and a tiny little GK-Kit box inside that.

Anderson's UK also ships the GK-KIT -GT3 in a huge box, must be the preference for international shipping these days by UK/Euro shops.

When I received mine from Andertons, I was surprised at the size of the box as well

Moja

The large box is a real problem !!!! I ordered GK- months Ago. It came in giant UPS Box. Customs flagged it & it cost me an extra $35 !!!

I ordered another one. I emailed them to please, please, please ship it in a much smaller box cause customs flags large boxes. They said shipper will  put it into smallest box .

Well , the darn thing came in same size Giant box, and sure enough, it cost me another $35 !!!!
I buy lots of stuff on Internet. This is the only time I paid taxes/duty, broker fees, etc.

What is the problem with these folks ?   Lol. Geeez

Just an update lately Andertons UK has the best prices on GK-Kit -GT-3 internal kits - around $130 with shipping

I just ordered a GK-KIT-BG3 here - they still show inventory

http://www.thomann.de/gb/roland_gkkitbg_bass.htm

      GK-KIT-BG3  = 79.83 EUR
Shipping to USA  = 30.00 EUR
                 Total = 109.83 EUR   = $124.88 USD

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered both guitar and bass kits. Future guitars to think about. :)
Hope i get both orders filled. Won't know until Monday.

Elantric

Just got a shipping tracking number from Thomann. Will be here later this week.

ericar123

Got my order confirmation too. Not sure what I am going to use them on yet but always wanted these. I am hoping I won't get too many duty or other charges on top of what I paid for them. Most of the kits available in the U.S. are around 300 each plus I would have to pay another 20% in exchange from Canadian dollars so these kits from Germany seem to be a deal.

Elantric

Update - DHL attempted to deliver my  GK-KIT-BG3 that I ordered from Thomann Germany, but I missed them - they will retry on Monday

But it has arrived  here in California from Germany and was only $125 USD including shipping
