QuoteIt's Godin season:

Just know that Godin Freeway SA uses the lower performing Graphtech Ghost Piezo 13 pin system - not RMC as used on most Godins

"California Classic" Solid Body Electric Guitar - Black

You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.

This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Without which am I then limited to only straightening notes ??? ;D
I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. - Richard P. Feynman

Has anyone tried this Alesis  USB interface? If so what do you think?

Rather put my money towards a Focusrite myself  - never been a fan of Alesis Audio interfaces, mostly due to their noisy  / brittle Mic Pre-amps.

Thanks no experience with the Alesis interfaces.

Now that I find myself using the Kemper or iPad more often than my GK stuff, this is actually tempting.  But are the new Variax's any more reliable/durable than the old ones?  I've been shying away from GK because the cable spooks me, but a randomly failing piezo element is actually far worse.  And all of my Variax's came around to that eventually.

IMHO the yellow Boss pedal you sent back blows away all the sounds available in the black guitar above

But if you need a grab & go with occasional Alt Tunings  - the JTV is ideal - I still find use for mine

I've never heard a JTV, but I prefer the GR-55 COSM guitars over my old Variax 300/500 models by a good margin.  So I'd probably do well to avoid the Variax regardless; I was just curious as to whether they still break as frequently.

about the same - my JTV-69 had to visit Line6 for repairs 2 times when 1st purchased (Neck flaws) ,  and my JTV-59 1 time (bad PU selector switch) 18 months after purchase. They covered under warranty - but I had to pay shipping and own a backup guitar while the JTV was off being repaired - about a 10-12  day turnaround

add that Variax Li-Ion batteries die soon when left on the hot stage after sound check at an outdoor summer show -    so these are not recommended for folks who can only afford one guitar on tour, or have room for only 1 guitar (need a  backup)

Line-6 is does not sell schematics to non Line-6 service centers.  so most independent guitar repairmen will not touch a variax for electronics repair.

Thanks.  Temptation has subsided.  :)

Mark, If you don't need a trem, I've got a brand new JTV89 in the box, for $685, I'll even through in a used Line 6 XTlive to act as a switcher.
I bought it to build a lefty but just don't have the time. PM me if you're interested. Paul

mbenigni

Thanks, Paul, but I think I managed to talk myself out of it in the course of the preceding few posts.  :)
