I see he's doing a triple Play version now:

And also, the bizarrely cool but basically old Disco Time Tunnel lighting effect version in the body:

No-one could accuse Ireland's Rob O Reilly Guitars of pointlessly churning out the same old tried and tested guitar designs that we've all seen before. Instead they've gone for cutting edge innovation and originality with their guitar designs, the ROR BE and MIDI guitars.

Their latest model is a variant of their BE guitar and is is equipped with built-in Fishman TriplePlay wireless MIDI controller. The standard guitar features a high grade maple fingerboard with ultra-tough white lacquer and non-chip binding and black edge fingerboard position dots; Maple bolt-on neck with smooth easy-slide matt black finish; 6 rear locking die-cast tuners for quick string change and stable tuning.  Most notably, the middle section of each guitar where the pickups and bridge are mounted is made from see-through perspex. A second perspex plate on rear of the guitar allows the owner to customise the guitar by inserting their own artwork. Upgrade options include an Apple iOS interface to allows the guitar to be played through an iPhone or iPad, and an "Infinity Mirror" which is essentially a cool lighting effect with LEDs inside the perspex sandwich of the body.

Wow, under a thousand (dollars) for the BE, and under two thousand for the FTP model. I've lately been thinking of such a thing and had no idea it was already around.

the FTP Strat has the best features IMHO at under $1K at Amazon (8th St Music)

I've had the Fender Deluxe Triple Play Strat for about 9 months. This thing is very versatile. For example, the built in audio interface comes in really handy when away from your home studio and you want to jam with a DAW. The DAW recognizes it as a 1 IN 2 OUT USB interface. I can't understate the flexibility of the built in USB interface. It is awesome. I can track at a 62 sample buffer size with a roundtrip latency of 5ms (3ms IN and 2 ms OUT). I've used it while traveling and for my primary interface for two weeks when my studio interface was being modded by BLA. The classic Stratocaster sound is there with the exception of missing the two tone pots. I rarely find myself missing the tone pots as you can slap an EQ plug-in on the audio track, map it to the built in MIDI wheel and achieve similar results. This has 3 volume pots instead (one for 1/4 in out, one for USB interface, and one for the MIDI interface). The 1/4 inch and USB interface are awesome. The midi pickup is not really all that great. The tracking is "fair" at best. When using the midi tracking in a DAW or iPad, ghost notes are common and require painstaking clean up to reflect what you played. Single note picking tracks a lot better than chords. If you absolutely must use the MIDI fictionality then I'd suggest tracking at a very slow BPM, clean up ghost notes, then return the BPM to what you'd want it to be. Overall, I think this a decent buy.

If I'm going this kind of route, it's for an 'exclusive' design and all that serves the FTP needs. I won't play regular guitar with it, and I'd sell my existing guitars and go straight electronic.

Also, by midi pickup he means the triple play? If so, seems it's not set up right or he's not doing something right.

I think it's a toss-up between the Fender and the Godin FTP guitars.  I would still use the guitar's original pickups and tone control; my  GC-1 (with a few choice mods) is a great-playing and sounding guitar that is quite flexible; I paid around $600 for the Godin (look for the deal on Amazon).  I do like the idea of the USB audio out on the Fender; perhaps I'll buy the Fender USB I/O board assembly and put it on my Godin!   ;D ;D
