While checking out the new Antares DSP board, i also met Don Ramsay  - the inventor of the Linear Tremolo - which IMHO is the best tremolo for a strat I have ever seen.

It maintains constant string height, and slides back and forth on an ultra smooth internal Linear Bearing

I got a chance to play a guitar with this tremolo 2 weeks ago, and I still consider this the all time best tremolo for VGuitar users.

Great feel, great sustain, and maintains GK-3 PU height setting during trem bar use

Where??  This is a very interesting piece of hardware, but information is hard to come by, and the website looks like 1998 or so.  And then crashes my browser.  :O

I got a chance to visit Thomas Nordegg recently, and he owns a Strat with  Don Ramsay Linear Tremolo

Very cool!  Curious who's building guitars with this part, who's distributing them, whether the part is available for aftermarket mods, what it costs, etc.

( Note on the right - observe the "Ground Strap" which allows the player to be constantly grounded via his /her forearm - provides lower noise guitar in the studio when you do not touch strings

I was able to play a guitar with the Linear Trem on it last year, and met with the inventor again briefly this year at NAMM (both times with Elantric).  I am VERY picky about tremolos.  I have never found one I really loved the feel and function of....UNITL I found this one. The linear trem feels AWESOME.  The sense of control that you have is extraordinary.  The trem moves with the lightest of touches, yet doesn't feel "floppy" or "sloppy".  I can't say enough good about this trem.

Of course, I can't attest first hand to how well it holds up over time because I've only ever been able to use it for a few moments at a time. But the units I saw were built REALLY REALLY well.

And, as an inherent aspect of it's design, it doesn't raise and lower the strings when you move it like standard trems do (granted, trems based on roller systems like the Steinberger and many of the Kahler models do not either).

I would buy one of these in a HEARTBEAT when they become available again.  I'd design a guitar around it JUST to have the trem.  Seriously.  I'm that excited about it.

But that's me... I've never quite been happy with the feel and performance of a tremolo system and I think I've found "the one".
