VG-99 - PodSuperLuxeOrch - Kind of a programming breakthru for me...

I've been working on getting my ambient type patches to sound more and more like the type of thing Ruppert has done.

Check the example included (5 minute excerpt of a piece I worked on during Easter Sunday morning...).

I basically used the latest revisions of my custom presets and then used the VG99 direct into a looper.

All sounds are from the VG99 - there's a bass undercurrent with a GR300 sound but the synthy stuff and the strings are believe it or not actually from guitars mostly.  I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it in front of me.  I thought for sure I'd have to use synthesizer type voices.

Questions?  Just ask - I kind of get the idea of how some of the more nice sounds can be had but I more or less stumbled across it by accident - pitch guitar strings an octave up (or down) out of their range, process the living daylights out of them and season to taste.  And sometimes the order of the processing is critical.  I also used the poly slow gear for one sound too.

Here it is:

Very  nice!  Have you posted the strings sounds?

aliensporebomb

Yes they are listed under the clean section, the last 4-5 I've done are all variations I used for this.

Give it a try!

In fact I just realized I can combine a couple of patches that might make it even lusher - more when I combine.

YOU ARE REALLY GETTING IT.  Sky's the limit like with Mr Ruppert.  How much time did it take to get here?  Any idea.  Like 20 hours a week on the VG?  For me I burnt out end of '09.  I'll come back to it  but for now I spend my time practicing the guitar.  Just discovered the importance of the metronome even though I've had one for 10 years.  I'm seeing real growth in just a week on one lick/technique.

Here's another I just put together called "Luxe Orchestra".  It's insane, it's one patch, no overdubs, all from the VG direct
no external effects or loopers or anything.  I should have called it "Too Lush".  Anyone want that one?  It's kind of ridiculous.

I haven't even had this thing a year yet....that will be in late June.

Not 20 hours a week at all, more like "I wonder if I turn this on, what does it do?  No, not that, try this.  Better.  OK.  etc."

Then I pretty much read everything Ruppert ever said about the device and I also noticed something that the product manager
of the VG had said about exploring the 12-string model deeply since it had features no other model on the box had.

Yes, practicing the instrument is a big important part of it.  But in my case my day job is pretty demanding and I don't get
nearly the time I want on any of my music gear.

Another good one.  I picture your music (body of work) to movies.  Like tension building moments or quiet moments.  I think they would fit in video.  Even suspense movies.  I notice your YouTube vids only have stills.  I always picture they would be better to movies. :)

Yes to posting it.

Norbitt

Love it! Please post it.

Really nice!  The panning and delayed attack of the alt tuning part is very "out there", but still very musical.  I like it.  Post it?  Sure!

It's up.

And another MP3 for your amusement.

Once you look at what I've done in the editor I get the idea that the timbre and texture of the pitch transposition can be changed rather
interestingly once you start playing around with different time delay type effects such as modulation and whatnot.

I do have some youtube videos with full motion videos.  Maybe I'll try to create some faux soundtrack type music and a FMV or actual
footage of me playing this stuff with the VG.

This sound is two Les Pauls and clean amps, plus processing?  Yep, that' a programming breakthrough, to be sure!   Very, very, very impressive!  I've added a Karma point (its the least I can do!)

Another good mp3.
I was thinking more of video of landscapes to start off rather than footage of you playing.  I think your music would be good in movie stuff.  Sort of like what you did with the stills only but movies.  Who knows maybe you could connect with local students or like minded videographers.

Suspense movie - who's behind that door.  who's lurking in the dark stairway.
Even a better fit would be outer space movies.  Possiblities:  ship docking; floating through space.  Most definitely sci fi.

I was actually approached by a director on youtube who requested the ability to use one of my pieces for a film he was making.
The permission was given but I've honestly heard nothing from the guy - maybe he forgot all about it.

I've also been talked to by the director of a particular film on South Africa (just showed at a film festival in Bermuda of all places)
about potential music for a future project.

So....we will see.

Yeah, it's about the furthest thing away from when I think Les Pauls.  I actually was sitting there going "I don't have anything else patched
into this do I?"  I was trying different models to make the "strings" effect be more pronounced and the LP was the best I tried.

These kind of brilliant fantastic " synth" patches is what the GP lacks ( among other things )

It's ubercool

I play Country music too, I'm just not sure which country it's from...
