i really hope i am blind but from what i can tell roland left this feature out ...
wtf roland really....
i use this on the vg-99 for tons of stuff
works really really good for modulating the pre amp gain on a amp sim to give you
more dynamics like a real amp...or to modulate the cosm guitar volume or pan or wet dry or .....

please tell me they called it something else and i am not seeing it

gumtown

nowhere in the gr55,
the closest thing is the nuance control for the pcm tones.

thats what i figured...way to go roland.....
why for the love of good can't roland just put out one really all inclusive bad ass processor
they have the know how and i would gladly pay the premium price

gumtown

Their line of thought (IMO) is why produce an amazing all in one unit when everyone has to buy two or more to get what you want.

That is what this was supposed to be:

The VG99 is as close as they got to your ideal. Use an external synth or FTP for midi. I hope Roland will make "VGR-99" one day. Ideally it would be a floorboard that looks like an FC300 but has VG99 dual COSM and flexible effects chains, better internal GR55 synth, GR30 triggering (best Roland had so I hear). If the put together their best in one box, I'd give $1800 for it, gladly.

Oh man, this would be so amazing.  I'd even be happy to see a competitor take the ball and run with it.  I'd give $1800 to Behringer if they got all these ducks in a row.  If nothing else, it might put a fire under Roland's a$$.

Might be sooner than you think

QuoteAuto-Tune for Guitar Floor Pedal

The Auto-Tune for Guitar Floor Pedal allows you to add all of the powerful Auto-Tune for Guitar features to virtually any guitar.

Guitars already equipped with Roland standard 13-pin output can plug directly into the Auto-Tune for Guitar Floor Pedal. Examples include 13-pin equipped guitars from Godin, Carvin, Parker, and Roland.

Other guitars require the simple addition of a hex pickup like the Roland GK-3 or equivalent. These pickups can typically be installed with no physical modification of your guitar.

Between the Antares Floor (due this Summer)  and FTP  - Roland has serious competition in the hex guitar processing space this year (2013)

Just went on Atares site and it looks like they are going to be offering hex pickups to fit different guitars. It would certainly be nice to have a good pickup for flatter radius guitars. :P

so we get to buy two or more products which i have done...why not just make one box for the amount of money that does it all...again they have the know how
and we have the technology...i mean they still make the same $$ ...hell they might make more since they would only have to manufacture one
piece of gear as apposed to several hence lowering their cost.

i have the vg99 and do pretty far out stuff with it....imho i see / hear very few people doing what i do with the vg-99 ( big bass, "sine waves", techno, "synth sounds etc )
i love the vg-99 and it can do amazing things
i also have the gr-55 which i love and it to can do amazing things
i also have a laptop but i don't want to use vst's as program changes is a bit of a pain in live plus the cpu drain as i run 5 loopers and 10 channels of
drums, percussion, fx, samples etc, with the lowest latency i can so i am already pushing my laptop to the extreme

so come on roland i will gladly pay $2500 for a full on vg-99 and gr-55 with ALL the features of both oh and give me monophonic synths and more that just a sine wave
for my pcm lfo's...hell i would pay $3500 for that as i have spent more anyhow with the gear i currently use!

i have been using roland synths /samplers, drum machines, grooveboxes and guitar gear for over 22 years so i know better than to hold my breath
but what i am asking for i know for a fact they can produce....

oh well the tools i have are great and their is always a work around so i guess i should just shut up and play my geetar  8)

fuzzfactory

oh and one last rant...for those that say "there isn't a market for such a product" is bullocks
i play electronic music festivals and have tons of guitar playing KIDS ask me how the hell can you do that with a guitar and i show them the
vg-99 and more recently the gr-55 and the response is always the same from this new generation...
it goes something like this...."yeah i saw that in guitar center in the corner...checked out the official videos
and i thought it was cheesy and just for old 1980's rocker guys and cover bands"

to which i reply well i am an old 1980's rocker guy and these tools can do far more than what roland demonstrates.

hell their dismissal of bill ruppert is proof that roland has absolutely no idea what the new market is about...
they did they same thing with the 808, 909, 303, ......it boggles my mind

fuzzfactory

example of the new generation ....trust me they would buy roland gear if roland did it right

Yeah, I'm not sure Roland would know what to think about the stuff I do because it fits into a weird space.  It's not the stuff in their marketing that's for sure.

In February I worked on a kind of weird funk/techno/rock band project with some friends and came up with this:
http://undercrypt.bandcamp.com/track/move-your-molecules

That's me on VG-99 for everything except the beat and synth bass part which done with me triggering Apple mainstage samples.  Forrest you might recognize a sound or two of yours in the intro.    The only thing that isn't VG-99 is the robot voices  and the Mini moog lead from my friend Keith.  He added a pad at the end but it's all VG otherwise.

This uptempo techno piece has more keyboard synth but still has a ton of VG-99 in it (textures, power chords, bass, sfx):
http://undercrypt.bandcamp.com/track/unexpected-technical-failure

Yes, you can do the rock thing too (I went a little overboard but we have some nice space textures at 2:30-ish):

GK Devices:  Roland VG-99, Boss GP-10, Boss SY-1000.

todd....you are one of the few i see pushing it and are just the type of cat roland needs to look towards for the future market place!
yes we all love to ROCK and roland has that down but the old guard is well getting old and these "kids" want something new
not videos of balding long hair 80's rockers playing the same old riffs and sounds cuz as we know these products are far beyond
what they show in their promos

fuzzfactory

Elantric

Fuzz,

I agree with you. Each generation will be forced to face:
"grandpa's still clinging on to a belief of still remaining relevant" syndrome.
