I ordered a neck from the GFS Factory buyout several months ago. Nice piece for the price, comparable to a Squier Affinity Strat neck. Dressed the frets and it was good to go. But be ready for some frustration when trying to order, as every item in the sale is unique (only one available) and they do not remove items as they sell them, so about 80% of the items I have tried to buy are already sold. They display on the main page, but when you select the item to check details it comes up "sold out". I mentioned this to them back when I bought the neck, but have seen no improvement in the website.

And folks are suggesting a Music123 Price Match for even lower costs.

QuoteMusic 123  price match $560.78

The non Tremolo JTV-89 is being discontinued, now that the Floyd Rose Version is out.

Worth picking one up, Elantric?  That's a pretty significant price reduction, and I'm wondering if I should jump on it.

I'm a bit prejudiced - I already own a JTV-59 and JTV-69, and use both in my latest band where I need no nonsense point and shoot gear that does what I need. I love my Tyler Variax's - After I installed a Bigsby B7 on the JTV-59, and SuperVee Tremsetter on the JTV-69.

The JTV-89 is more geared to "metal heads", with its  Ibanez Jem Wizard Thin Neck profile. Not my cup of tea ("Too Thin Necks" give me severe muscle cramps in my forearm after 20 minutes of playing.)

But the interesting aspect is buying the JTV-89 at $560 via the Music123 PriceMatch  - then gutting it for the Tyler Variax parts.

Combine with the RackVax GK 13 pin Adapter board -

and mount in your own chassis and you have Tyler Variax sounds with your current GK-13 pin guitar.

Elantric, I have the tools and ability. Do you know if you can convert the Variax to work left handed??? Paul

Not that difficult really - its all done via the white connector (with two gray cables heading to the bridge) on the far upper right in pic below
Swap the 6 piezo string signals at the 8 pin 2mm JST Connector (same as we do with the GK-3 PU connector) and change the strings - (and install a left hand Nut, re-intonate the bridge saddles -  plenty of travel on the JTV-89 /59 Bridge) then play it like Hendrix played a Right handed Strat.

Thanks, I would probably build a lefty body. But definetly sounds like a plan.

Are these still available despite the site shutting down? If so, where?:)

Not sure whether to post this in the speakers thread, the KPA thread, or the Deal Alert thread... guess I'll start here.  GC was blowing out these little Kustom mini-PA's for $69 as a "Flash Deal" this weekend:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Kustom-PW50-Personal-PA-System-106388085-i1934071.gc

The regular price isn't too much higher ($99) but Amazon is still looking for ~$150 for this or equivalent product*.   In any case, I bought one on Saturday, figuring for $70 it would serve some kind of utility around the house.  I put it under my KPA, and in my opinion it sounds AMAZING.  So I got on the phone on Sunday afternoon and managed to order two more at the Flash Deal price.  Basically, super-convenient speaker cabs for the price of an effects pedal!  If you stumble on one at this price, I would highly recommend it.

Astonishing what current technology can deliver in a package this size!  Pic attached of what has to be the coolest practice amp ever.  :)

*There seems to be some confusion between the PA50 and the PW50 variation rebranded for PowerWerks, maybe?  GC email blast advertised PW50, but the unit I bought is actually marked PA50.  The two I ordered on Sunday were listed as PW50 in their computer, so we'll see.

QuoteNo guitar neck profiles are more distinguishable than the neck profiles employed on the Gibson models of today. The more traditional '50s neck profile on the SG Special is the thicker, rounder profile, emulating the neck shapes found on the iconic 1958 and 1959 Les Paul Standards. The neck is machined in Gibson's rough mill using wood shapers to make the initial cuts. But once the fingerboard gets glued on, the rest--including the final sanding--is done by hand. That means there are no two necks with the exact same dimensions. So while it still has the basic characteristics of its respective profile, each neck will be slightly different, with a distinct but traditional feel.

Weird marketing copy here.  I can totally respect the value of a hand-crafted instrument, but playing up inconsistency in neck profile as "most distinguishable" seems a little off-kilter to me, especially when you're trying to sell a guitar on the internet, as in "no idea what might show up..."  Every guitar being unique is one thing, but having more variance off the line than your competition?  Not a selling point IMO.

A rare case of truth in advertising, and a healthy dose of "spin"?

I recently ordered a pair of these power cords , and going to order more.

These are North America style 25 foot long "IEC" type AC Power cords for all your Self Powered PA cabs  / monitors / KPA amps / FCB-1010 Foot Controllers  ,etc.

The stock ones are typically only 6 feet long, which is barely long enough for a working band's PA system, or amplifiers.

C2G / Cables to Go 14719 18 AWG Universal Power Cord (IEC320C13 to NEMA 515P) Black (25 Feet/7.62 Meters)  - $9.09 / each with free shipping

Elantric,
Thanks for the tip on the cables, but you may want to check these out before placing that order

25ft 16AWG Power Cord Cable w/ 3 Conductor PC Power Connector Socket (C13/5-15P) - Black
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10228&cs_id=1022801&p_id=5288&seq=1&format=2#description
$8.07 for 1
$7.78 for 2-9

they also have extension cables:
25ft 16AWG Power Extension Cord Cable - SJT 16/3C NEMA 5-15P TO NEMA 5-15R (13A/125V) AP301+SP506 - Black

They only have 15 foot long in 18 AWG, but they are $3.24 for 2 or more

depending on how many you buy the shipping may eat up the difference. I've been buying from monoprice for years, and their prices are hard to beat.

I do use MonoPrice for some items, and they often have discounted sales.

With Amazon, because I have "Amazon Prime" One cable is $9.09 with free 2 day shipping+ $0.80 tax = $9.89 delivered

At MonoPrice its $15.77 delivered.

Uploaded at Snapagogo.com

If I order 10 cables  - its $98.90 at Amazon

But at MonoPrice its $89.98 - so the savings do kick in at larger orders.

You're absolutely right, the shipping can very easily offset the price tag on the item. I always wait until I have at least a $40 order before using Monoprice.

On the power cable, the Monoprice cable is 16AWG, Amazon is 18AWG. Monoprice did not have a 25 foot 18AWG cable, they switch to 16AWG  for anything over 15 feet long. I really don't know at what point switching to heavier cable actually makes a difference. Do you have guidelines for length/AWG/current draw to help determine when to switch to heavier cable? I've always just grabbed the heaviest ones from retired PC servers to add to my box of cables, figuring the heavier wire was better (aside from the actual weight of the cable when packing up  :D)

Antonio Hermosa AH-50 Classical Acoustic-Electric     $234.57

   *  Nylon String Guitar
   * Solid Spruce Top
   * Chambered Body with no Soundhole
   * Piezo Pickup with EQ and Tuner
   * 25.5" Scale Length with 1-7/8" Nut Width

I'll give a report when this arrives next week - Been playing a lot of All Acoustic gigs and using my Line6 Variax Acoustic 700 - (Side note: So Called "All Acoustic gigs" actually still means hauling amplification, Ive been using a Roland AC-33 or AC-60 with great results) and this Antonio Hermosa AH-50 seems like a poor mans Godin, and also will also be easier to lend to my girlfriend who is learning to play guitar - (nylon strings easier for newbies)

Good Amazon reviews

It arrived and its a good guitar, Excellent Frets. Very Light! and perfect for teaching guitar to my girlfriend.
Its a bolt on Neck - which is actually a benefit. The Action was slightly too high, but was easily fixed by removing the neck,  inserting a small shim to slightly increase the Neck  / Body angle, and now it plays like a dream

Details on Neck Shimming
http://www.fishman.com/software/tripleplay/help/tripleplay_tut10.pdf
Another pleasing aspect is the built in Tuner, and without plugging in it sounds pleasing acoustically, yet is not distracting. Since even unplugged my Steel string Electric Guitars make too much distracting noise acoustically, this Antonio Hermosa AH-50 Classical is the first guitar my girlfriend will allow me to play while we both watch TV. This means more Fret Time for me!

Actually mine that just arrived  has minor shipping damage on the rear of the body- and Amazon had already sent a replacement while I have the 1st one repacked with a free UPS return shipping label.

EDIT: August 14, 2013

The replacement  Antonio Hermosa AH-50 Classical arrived from Amazon (2 day travel from  New Jersey to California!) and this one was perfect. Highly recommend this guitar for those seeking a Nylon sound for live use, or a nice low volume practice guitar. Covers 80% of the territory that a Godin Multiac would at over  $1K savings
