Update:  April 27, 2013

Description: Pod Landau Clean

Version: 2.00 [see most recent post from me in this thread]

Category: Clean

Style: Rock Fusion

Description:  Attempt to duplicate the processed clean guitar sound as popularized on Michael Landau's "Tales from the Bulge" fusion CD.  The original was recorded with a number of very expensive rack units including a Dyno My Piano "Tri Stereo Chorus", a chorus unit noted for its three analog LFOs producing a lush, shimmering, expansive sound.  These units have long been out of production and will set you back $3000-$4000 if you can find one in running condition.   Some of the tracks such as "Roodis Tones" and "I Don't Care" from the same album have the guitar going thru a DBX 160 compressor, modulation delay, Tri Stereo Chorus, Eventide H3500 dynamic Ultra Harmonizer, etc.  The fact remains, this particular configuration is very expensive to duplicate.  This is my attempt on reproducing this evocative sound.   The hardest part besides the effects configuration is keeping it bright and sparkling but keeping it warm too.  I may do another version with a bit more ambience and more cutting high end.

FileType: mid

To V or not to V: That is the question.

I added a variant this morning that made it  brighter (highs were too rolled out, it lost the sparkle somewhat) then I increased the effects trails that followed the guitar a bit.

I was trying to go for the effects you hear in this video:

Great sound none the less. The "tube" recording has more 250-800 Hz mids, probably because it has more honk from the speaker.

I'll probably do a rev 4 or 5 eventually boosting the mids a bit.

What an excellent tone!  Thanks for sharing.
Address the process rather than the outcome.  Then, the outcome becomes more likely.   - Fripp
