I have an older Roland Ready Stratocaster (Black with White Pickguard and Rosewood Neck) that I want to tweak a bit.  I snagged a 22 fret maple neck off of a newer Blacktop Stratocaster (also MIM) that I hope to put on this guitar, replaced the bridge with a bigger block 6-point Fender Trem, etc.

The biggest question I have is replacing the pickguard.  I want to give the guitar the black on black look of David Gilmour's strat (and possibly change the pups while I'm at it.  I hear that swapping guard is a bit of a task and many people have accidentally disconnected wires and such in the process.  I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and such should the need arise, however I'm wondering if anyone here has some tips on how to go about replacing the guard and the magnetic pups while I'm in there.

Thanks!

Go slowly - take LOTs of pics at each step of disassembly.
