I just noticed that Roland recently released native VG-99 drivers for Windows 7 -- both 32-bit and 64-bit:

Please read the attached PDF - its crucial information all VG-99 owners running Windows 7 64 must understand. (the HTML source is the "Read ME" folder in the Roland USB driver zip file)

This document is available by clicking "READ ME" during the VG-99 USB Driver installation (see pic)

Welcome to the group DigitialGuitarist!  :)

I hear these new drivers are not working that good. You have any problems with them?

DigitialGuitarist

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I had trouble installng the original 1.0.0 drivers for Win7 x64.  But within moments after that, the 1.0.1 drivers were released.  And so far, everything for 1.0.1 has been smooth -- at least for me.

The 1.0.1 drivers state on the website that they are "fixes" for the 1.0 install process not completing, and no MIDI drivers being installed.
I installed the 1.0.1 [x64] version and so far they have been great !  No longer need the UA4FX drivers.

I'm just about to make the jump to win 7 also. I dnloaded (but didn't install) the driver. Will read the pdf next. Anything else I need to know so i do it right? Thanks!!

The Roland factory Win7 Drivers  for VG-99 are now working well

Use the specific VG-99 USB driver for your specific Win7 version (32 bit or 64 bit)
Get them here:

hi, i can't get this thing to work.

i downloaded the drivers from roland : vg99_win7_x64_v101.zip
i have windows 7 x64 up to date.
the installation goes well but "VG99EditorLibrarian101" just don't work.
it's just the same problem with the editor or librarian.
1/ it ask for midi configuration.
2a/ if i set the usb drivers in the vg-99 to advanced, "vg-99 midi" or "vg-99 control" shows up but it's pointless since i don't want to use the midi, i want to use usb.
2b/ if i set the usb drivers in the vg-99 to standars then it don't shows up but i can set the midi with my sound card anyway through the vg-99 isn't connected to my sound card via midi because again, i don't want to use the midi, i just want to use the usb to put sound in the vg-99.
4/ and then if i try to import the sound from the vg-99 to the editor or if u try to import the sound library from the vg-99 to the librarian, i just have an error message telling me that there is a connection problem, the vg-99 isn't connected or whatever through when i change the usb driver mode from advanced to standard, the vg-99 is well recognized by windows and i have a little message that tell me that it's ready to go.

do i actually need to connect the vg-99 in midi to edit or import sound in the vg-99 ?  ???

edit: i don't think my firmware is up to date, maybe that's the problem but if i can't save my sounds before updating, it's kind of a pain as well.
how do i check the version of my firmware ?
thx.

You have to be on latest VG-99 firmware 1.04  - or the VG-99 Editor will not run.

For answers read the VG-99 FAQ
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=13.0

After you install the Roland VG-99 USB Driver  and set it to Advanced Mode  your computer will see the VG-99 as three separate devices:

1) VG-99 ASIO Audio Device

2 ) VG-99 MIDI DEVICE

3 ) VG-99 MIDI Control device.

In the VG -99 Editor, in the Setup MIDI , make these assignments

MIDI IN = VG-99 Control

MIDI OUT = VG-99 Control

You must also set the VG-99 Editor connection "Set Up MIDI Devices =  "Roland VG-99 CONTROL" for "VG-99 Input/Output."

Read the VG-99 Editor Help file ( it was included in the Roland download file -"VG-99EditorManualE.htm"

https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=50.0;attach=19

Connections and Settings
1. Following the instructions in the VG-99 Owner's Manual, install the driver.

2. Following the instructions in the VG-99 Owner's Manual, connect the VG-99 and your
computer. You cannot run VG-99 Editor if the VG-99 and the computer are not properly connected.

3. Turn on the power to the VG-99, then start up VG-99 Editor.

4. If you are using a USB connection and running VG-99 Editor for the first time, be sure to
select "Set Up MIDI Devices..." from the "Setup" menu to open the dialog, then select
"Roland VG-99 CONTROL" for "VG-99 Input/Output."
If connecting through means other than USB, specify the port connected to the VG-99.

5. For "Device ID," select the same number as the "DEVICE ID" parameter on the VG-99
(SYSTEM -> MIDI -> DEVICE ID).

* Do not disconnect the USB cable connecting the VG-99 while VG-99 Editor is
running.

* If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the VG-99 is in use, or if
the power of the VG-99 is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly.
If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications

that solved the problem, thx.

Admittedly, I'm a total n00b here, and this may be a dumb question, but the Win 7 x64 driver 1.01 link is broken and I have gotten no response from Roland.  All that is listed on the site for 64-bit Windows 7 is the 1.00 version.

Was 1.01 pulled for some reason, or are you guys installing the Win8 driver, or do you have another source - dropbox, etc, for the 1.01 version?

Appreciate the push in the right direction - just purchased a VG-99 + FC-300 on eBay and trying to get my PC ready when they arrive.  I'm an old hand with the VG-88, but looking forward to the new toys.
