Hi there,

Some time ago my PC died.  I had a lot of data backed up, but something that fell through the cracks was my librarian & saved patches for my VG-8.  I believe I used V-Library or V-Librarian - it was freeware that used to be on the vg-8.com site.  My hardware breakdown was also after vg-8.com went down - two unfortunate events in series.

Does anyone know where I can download that again and/or the patches that were there?  I frequently swapped patches, and cannot believe that it made it past my backup procedures.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James

Thanks everyone for your help.  I really appreciate it.

I've been living with the same patches since my hardware failure, which has been ok for a while - and finally have gotten around to having time to start asking for help.

Thanks again!
James

QuoteI still cant find the editor program that you guys speak of,

There never was a VG-8 Editor  - Only old 1997 versions of Emagic SoundDiver , or MIDI Quest used to have a basic editor, but both were very buggy.

We program the VG-8 on the genuine Roland VG-8 LCD screen and data wheel , using our ears and lots of "Q-Dial" spinning.

Doesn't the VG-8 and 88 use essentially the same operating system and share much of the same specs?

Who programed the Veditor, and should it be really that hard to do a bit of tweaking to get it to work with the VG-8 and VG-8ex?

Incorrect - VG-8 vs VG-88  are different generation products, no cross-compatibility, no patch compatibility.

VG-88 V-EDITOR 0.51  - Librarian / Editor for the Roland VG-88
The original Developer (Ralph Benchetrit in France)  ceased all work on this VG-88 V2 Only Editor back in 2003.

Dear Elantric,
does VG-8 Virtual Library works with VG-8 EX?
Actually I'm trying to use it with Win 7 64, but if i try to make Audition, nothing happen,
the patch remain the same, without previews the sound.
Can you help me?
Thank you a lot.

All the programs for VG-8 / VG-8EX are here:

Yes

VG-8 VLibrary patch librarian is here:
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=19

It will NOT run on Win7 64 operating system, or anything newer

Most folks run it with an old WinXP or Win98 machine

You will never hear any "audition" patch sounds with the software alone, you must load the desired patch into a genuine Roland VG-8 or Roland VG-8 with S1 upgrade, or Roland VG-8EX hardware  - each connected to the PC via 5 pin MIDI I/O

I use Roland UM-ONE MKII (below) and an old WinXP notebook to run VG-8 VLibrary app.

I got you software, i made my correct midi connection,
i read the sys ex in the Librarian but if i try to send a patch to VG8ex nothing happen.
Of course i use Audition feature to send patch to VG and try to listen and use it.
With no success.
Can you have some ideas?

Hi there,

It's been a very long time. I've been busy building a dedicated room to make music and it's finally getting to an end. I'm now getting to place and wire all the equipment in the room, which is quite a demanding task, more than what I expected. Soldering patchbays and making cables..getting there!

I have a VG8, VG88, VG99, Gr33 and GR55 that I want to incorporate into the studio. I'm deciding what's the best way to connect them all. The plan is to send everything to a patchbay. But at the moment I am deciding how to place these gear in the room. As it is quite a small room, I thought in building a type of rack cabinet with drawers for all the different units. This "rack cabinet/drawer" would be on the floor, and I guess it will be about 50 cm high. This means that it won't be possible to edit sounds through the actual units, or it will be, but extremely uncomfortably sitting on the floor. That's not the idea.

So before I build this cabinet/drawer I wondered if there are working editors and librarians for all those units (VG8, VG88, VG99, Gr33 and GR55) I've checked quite a lot but I'm on MAC, and for what I've seen there aren't any for mac. I'd be happy to buy a Windows Laptop to do the editions and use the libraries, but before even building the cabinet, I just wanted to check with the community about editors and librarians for these units.

Many thanks guys!!

That's really cool, Thank you! Just installed the VG8Librarian, GR33Editor and VG88Editor and VG88librarian on a laptop on windows 7. Very exited to try them tomorrow at the studio. Will post once I've tried them.

Many thanks,
Toni

Installed the a librarian on win 7 and it seems to be working well. I can audition the patched that are in the librarian which is very cool, but I can't dump the patches that are on the vg88EX to the librarian. Tried everything and couldn't find it. Is it possible that that's not possible? It'd be a shame I think...

I'm coming back to the VG8ex, I also own a VG88 and VG99 and I must say I'm really liking the sound of the VG8ex. I'm using a Godin piezo but will buy a GK3a as I think most sounds specially vio sound much warmer and how it is intended to be with the gk pickup.

sounds like your third party MIDI I/O interface is not set correctly within VLIbrary

You set this right at start up

Looks like this

- but note a correct MIDI I/O setup should indicate the MIDI INPUT and MIDI OUTPUT as the MIDI hardware interface you are using for the necessary 5 pin MIDI Input  and 5 pin MIDI Output connections to the VG-8 / VG-8EX

Tonato

Thank you, but I can't find the option to bulk the presets from the VG8 into the computer....What do I actually need to click? Can't find anything to do it.

Thank you

edgarfreedom

Write me if interested in a VG8 Librarian--browser based.  No editing yet--but a good platform to send/rx to/from VG8 and load/save to file and copy/cut/paste all/indiv patches
