Thanks for that tekrytor,
I've downloaded it to my 55  and with a bit of tweaking I've now got a very passable flute mellotron!
Playing with this as I write and it really is very good.
Cheers, Jim

As embarassing as it is that my first post is an admission of incompetence, it must be so.
I have looked for a thread that details the installation of user patches g5.l's.  I can't seem to find it.  Can someone help direct me in locating good step by step directions.  It seems like the manual and site arelacking in melding the librarian instructions to the GR-55 or I am just missing it.
Thanks...Looking forward to sharing patches with everyone.

At the risk of being labelled the village idiot so quickly, yes I did.  I guess what I was reading I thought "surely it can't be this difficult".  My brain keeps saying I should be able to pop it onto a thumb drive and import it right in.  It seems, however, that it actually requires somewhat of a dance, a jig if you will, of unnatural proportions.
Is it really as difficult as you have written in your thread "Assembling a user bank in the Librarian software"? or Gumtown's "HOW TO USE THE LIBRARIAN TO RE-ARRANGE PATCHES IN THE GR-55"?
am I missing something?
I am holding out hope that I have overlooked a much more intuitive, easy way to import patches.

PS Thanks for the Welcome!

Use search

or read the one thread every GR-55 must read in full:

You need a USB cable (standard printer type of USB cable) and the GR-55 USB drivers installed on the computer (download from any Roland site).
And either the Roland GR-55 Librarian (download from Roland site) or the GR-55FloorBoard patch editor software from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

Thanks guys... I really did try search before asking.  I just didn't dig deep enough or the brain was expecting different results.

I look forward to trying out some of the patches...By the way why are they referred to as child boards...or child something or other?

I am a new user. Recently received my GR-55. Uploaded several .G51 files (patches) from this site to my computer on a USB stick.  Put the stick into the Gr-55. Went to user USB button on GR-55 and the patches don't show up or play.  I am obviously missing a step or function. Please advise.......
PS: love the unit but agree the Roland patches are less than ideal. Looking forward to using the patches created by forum members.... A big thank you in advance to all who created these!

It would be nice to be able to use a USB  stick to safe  / upload individual GR-55 patches, but that feature is not supported.

suggest read

Thank you all for the links and tips. Though it would be as easy as a plug and play USB stick. Guess not. Will go thru the links and sort out. Thanks again!

I have loaded a ton of sounds from this page and the Roland page and I have used the librarian and it was easy, But the sounds don't
sound correct. I have the Black Gr 55 could that be the problem. Piano downloads sound like drums and so forth.
Does anyone know why the sounds are not correct? The patch names are correct.

See above at 1st post in this thread

A USB Thumb drive in the GR-55 side door is no use for saving  / loading individual patches.

Instead we all use Gumtowns GR-55 Floorboard Editor on a PC or Mac

GR-55: Patches - User vs. Preset and Adding Artist Patches with GR-55 Librarian Application

In the GR-55 there are 99 USER BANKS with 3 USER PATCHES per BANK available for customization. This is a total of 297 USER PATCHES for customization and editing WRITE/SAVE.

USER PATCHES vs. SOUND STYLE PRESET PATCHES
USER PATCHES [USER button] by default are identical to the 99 BANKS of PRESET PATCHES [SOUND STYLE buttons: LEAD/RHYTHM/OTHER] and are pre-programmed.
SOUNDS STYLE PRESET PATCHES are editable but can't be WRITE/SAVED to a PRESET PATCH location only WRITE/SAVED to a USER PATCH LOCATION (USER 01-1 to 99-3).
When creating a PATCH or making an EDIT [WRITE/SAVE] customized changes and WRITE/SAVE to a USER PATCH LOCATION.
The SOUND STYLE PRESET PATCHES are hard programmed and can't be DELETED, if a DEFAULT USER PATCH is DELETED and the original PATCH is desired, then WRITE the corresponding PRESET PATCH back into the USER PATCH range.

ADDING ARTIST PATCHES:
Place the ARTIST PATCHES over USER PATCHES in chosen USER PATCH LOCATIONS.
Use the GR-55 LIBRARIAN to manage, organize, save and swap GR-55 USER and ARTIST PATCHES as a repository for GR-55 PATCH content.

GR-55 LIBRARIAN

1. Install the GR-55 LIBRARIAN computer application.

2. Open the GR-55 LIBRARIAN application by double clicking icon short cut.

2. Turn on and connect the GR-55 with USB 2.0 to the computer and in the main title menu under SETUP - SET UP MIDI DEVICES set the GR-55 INPUT: to GR-55 and OUTPUT: to GR-55 and PRESS OK.

3. In the MAIN LIBRARIAN window PRESS READ ALL, this will upload all current GR-55 PATCHES to the LIBRARIAN.

4. Download the GR-55 ARTIST PATCHES from website.
http://www.rolandus.com/go/gr-55_artist_patches/

5. Uncompress and extract the JEFF LOOMIS.ZIP download, open the JEFF LOOMIS FOLDER and look for the JEFF LOOMIS.g5l file (.g5L GR-55 LIBRARIAN FORMAT example). Double click and open the JEFF LOOMIS.g5l in LIBRARIAN.

6. With the computer mouse select the first PATCH and SHIFT+ MOUSE SELECT to the last desired JEFF LOOMIS PATCHES and COPY them (Ctrl+C on WINDOWS/CMND+C on MAC), then PASTE these into the GR-55 LIBRARIAN PATCHES (Ctrl+V on WINDOWS/CMND+V on MAC) and into the MAIN WINDOW in the desired PATCH LOCATIONS for the GR-55.

(NOTE: the user can audition any track selecting PREVIEW BOX, it will load that specific PATCH to the GR-55 to audition).

6. In the GR-55 MAIN LIBRARIAN window press - WRITE SELECTED and the patches will be loaded into the GR-55 and will be recognized in correlating USER PATCH LOCATIONS.

6. When GR-55 LIBRARIAN PATCH editing is complete, first soft eject the GR-55 from the computer and disconnect the GR-55 USB from the computer.
