Great topic! I use to have VG-8s1 and now i have the VG-88v2. I still love the sound of the VG-8, great presets. I'm thinking go back to VG-8... I'm crazy? Thanks

You say an interesting thing !  ::) ???

Big question for me is how the VG-8(s1/EX) & VG-88 compare w.r.t. their machines/possibilities themselves

... sounds like the presets of the '8 are more popular, but that's obviously something else.

Must admit that after getting the '88v2 I was a bit disappointed when looking for varied bass-sounds.
I recall the nice P-bass-ish & Rick-ish demo-tracks form the VG-8 Demo-CD, but must say I haven't spend the time yet
with the VG-88v2 to program something like those.

Summarizing: are people remaining more fond of the VG-8(s1/EX) because of the presets or because of the machine itself ?   ???

Most folks who have owned them all still regard the VG-8 as superior for "non Guitar" sounds - due to its more advanced HRM Synth and VIO Guitar modes which were severely truncated in the VG-88

Its best to download and review the old Owners manuals for each - and make a spreadsheet of all the features to locate  / compare the shared and missing features on each.

Review the old web archive links here:

The VG-8 presets are amazing, but i use to love the sound of the original amps. I can't achieve the sound of the British stack and studio lead in VG-88, just the tweed model. I love the mic simulation. I really miss the tuning possibilities in the HRM. I was really happy.... :-). I'm looking for a VG-8, will be nice to compare both. Thanks!!

Thanks for the response & suggestion. The HRM part/extend of the VG-8 would have been nice to have, but not too big a problem. I'm mainly after the simulation of 'other' existing guitars, so that's covered by the  '88.

Thanks/regards

That's be sure interesting, you've found a VG-8 already ?  Maybe I should do the same, get a VG-8 & compare.  Curious to any findings you might have so far.

I bought this back in the day. No Paypal then. I probably sent a money order.  :) I can't find my CD now. It'll be in a box somewhere. Anyways. Does it exist as a download these days?

I have a VG8 now so it would be good to revisit those tracks.

Not being able to find my original CD was killing me. Scratching my head I spied a rather upmarket old gift box in the corner. Probably wifey's. It can't be in there. Well, it was! Cool. And there as well was The Dregs, Neil Finn, Radiohead, XTC, Julian Cope amongst others. Quality find.

Some cool tracks as I now recall.
