Hi.

Yesterday I couldn't resist a bargain. The shop offered me a GK3 that he had there because it came from a combo GR55 box that he sold without the GK. More than 33% discount!. So it came in the cartoon box and not the retail one but all it's there!

Anyway, I need just a confirmation as it's my first GK3:

Clockwise makes it higher (radius goes curved) and Counterclockwise make it flatter right?
I have to match a 13.77 inches 349 mm radius on my LTD ST-213.

When I unscrew the screw (counterclockwise) at some point the screw it's taller than the yokes and I still see the yokes going out of the PU shape. so what's the stop point?
Even if I think that I need to recess the pickguard with a dremel tool I want to try this first.

Thanks a lot!

^^^ Moreover I have a string clearance that's less than the gauge (1mm) provided. A part that all works fine but what is that ok?

It's best to follow the detailed threads on GK-3 Installations here

Thanks.
I have read all the materials I could.
Very interesting and illuminating for the various option especially DIY and pickguards.
However I did not find explicitly what happens when string clearance  is less than 1mm
and you have to adjust sensitivity very low. I have less than 1mm when I press the highest fret and no
contact with the yokes when I play but I guess I am running under wrong specs..

cheers

The GK hex PU has a 12" radius
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile&id=41

Fret strings at highest fret and adjust the GK hex PU for 1mm height on d & g strings

Use the GK String Sensitivity on your VG-99, GR-55, GP-10 the set level for all strings.

If you want best performance GK-3 , in future use a guitar with 12" radius fretboard

Thanks admsustainiac,

My Strat Plus has a GK2A with 9.5" radius. The GK3 fits nicely even if I have to avoid using the double tape as that will diminish the clearance. Using the screws on a 1989 Guitar sounds crazy but that can be done on a new pickguard. The LTD (the guitar I'm trying to install GK3 to) has less clearance than 1mm at the highest fret, can be played anyway but I had to raise the action over 2mm at high E. Many option as DIY comprehend shim neck, Dremel the pickguard and some other more risky stuff. However I still do not know if having a clearance less than 1mm brings feedback, distortion and more into the game.

Cheers

If GK PU is too close you get string slap ,buzzing, and unwanted distortion

Ah ok.   8) That is what I wanted to know. Thanks!
Moreover I can get a 1ply pickguard opposed to the 3ply pickguard I got today. In that case I can have an additional mm to play with. However what impact has a 1ply pickguard opposed to 3ply pickguard on overall sound, electrical isolation it's beyond me.

Thanks
