VB-99- Sub XLR Out

I want to send the signal from my VB99 to a power amp (which will then power a TecAmp Pleasure Board)

As I have an XLR cable around, can I use the Sub Out for this? It's set to output the Mixer so think it'll be OK? Should I use the L or R if I'm just using one? It doesn't say L is Mono like it does with the 1/4" outputs... though if it's only one channel of a stereo signal that's OK too, the Pleasure Board is a vibrating platform so the audio quality isn't necessarily that important

Any advice?

Cheers

One thing to consider is if you want the output level knob on the front to work you will use the 1/4 inch outs. The XLR is intended to go to the mixer and does not change when using the output level knob on the front of the VB. This is useful if you want to raise or lower your monitor level and not change front of house mix.

Ah good to know, thanks. There's a volume control on the power amp I can use to control the output to the board, so as long as the signal from the VB99 is OK, we should be alright I think?

Usually the attenuator on power amps doesn't affect the XLR link.
If you lower the level of your power amp , it won't affect what's sent to the FOH.

That's what you want.

Check if your amp accepts -10 level , then you can use the 1/4 out.
There might be dip switch or XLR/long frame combo input ......

Thanks. OK I've got it going from the Sub Out (L) to the power amp then to the board. It sounds (feels) amazing. Octave synth shakes my bowels, now!

Hi all, me again

When I go to the global settings, the only thing that has any effect on my SUB OUT is the level - but the EQ doesn't do anything. Am I missing something??

I just tried this myself.  If I switched the sub-eq off and back on again then it worked.  I think the 'hi-gain' frequency might be above the range of a regular guitar signal, but the low and the parametric worked fine

Just make sure the EQs are ON. They should work.

Hi guys

The EQ is on, but doesn't react at all. Same goes for the Main EQ SW.

My vg99 acts funny every so often, like no responce from the patch volume knob. Usally cycling the power button a few times fixes it.

Did you try a factory reset. Back up any custom patches that you want to save first of course.

Thanks. I could do that but I don't want to risk it! It's not a problem but it's just that I'd like to attenuate the treble end a little since the sub out goes to an actual sub. It might be more efficient with a lower frequency range but it sounds great now anyway so just wondered.

If it's plugged to a sub , it's normal that you don't hear the hi-end being cut.
Subwoofer don't reproduce high frequencies.

It's not the best way to plug a setup with a sub ........ Sub out doesn't mean Sub-woofer out but Sub-group out.

Is your Subwoofer active or passive ?
If it's active , is there a crossover on your Subwoofer?

Agreed , yet it remains a common misconception by many
VG-99 /VB-99 owners.

Solved  by actually taking time to read the Owners manual and review the published signal routing  block diagrams contained within.

Yes, there is a lot of misconception.

I did finally figure one tricky situation out some years ago,
when a user had just brought a Boss GT-10,
and couldn't get any sound out of his quad speaker cabinet.

The penny dropped when he asked how much audio wattage the Boss GT-10 puts out, it says 18 watts on the power supply adapter.

Hi,

Sorry I should be more specific, it's not technically a sub but a Tecamp Pleasure Board, which is a vibrating platform to sit/stand on. So my signal goes from the sub out to a power amp which powers the board. At the same time I use headphones to hear the bass; the board is for feel.

It handles the whole frequency range but I'd like to dial down the top end going into it, that's all. And yes, I recognise the Sub-Out isn't for a sub, that's OK. But I should still be able to adjust the sub out using the EQ but it doesn't work - the signal diagram doesn't help because it shows the sub out EQ before the sub eq output level, which does work... so now i'm more confused!

Check that you are using the the Sub Global EQ ,and not the similar Global EQ.

The VB-99 signal flow chart is accurate

Back up your user presets and try a factory reset.

I prefer using the Roland VB-99 Editor GUI , as I can easily navigate to the Control I need with less confusion /pilot error as can be encountered when editing in standalone mode -less LCD PAGE FLIPPING

Also to debug the VB-99 Sub Global EQ function , temporarily swap out the Tecamp Pleasure Board for a typical passive bass speaker using same power amp  ,  I've demoed the pleasure board at NAMM and IMHO it's not a flat response full range system

It's designed not to be, hence the desire to filter out the top end. I may end up getting a new power amp with a built in crossover so that will do the job in a roundabout way.

One thing I'm thinking , try this before changing anything:

In Mixer>Page 5>Sub out
Has to be "Mixer"

Maybe that's the problem......

ped

Thanks for that. I'm sure I've checked that but will have another look.

fokof

Have you found the problem ?

Curious....

Hi mate
Yes sort of. I've managed to get it working for the bass signal which is useful. When I play music to my VB99 via USB it passes right through and isn't affected by the global eq section but I'd like to change that. I seem to remember though that it needs changing every time you power on.
