Hello all. I have had my GT-100 about a year and a half, and believe it or not, I still have questions.

First, I have a copy of the GT Brilliance document, which I used back when I had a GT-8, so the meat of it I just carried over.

There were a few things that I either missed, don't remember, or can't find.

1) I understand that all knobs are active, rather than passive, which means a value of 0-100 is actually -50/0/+50, making a setting of 10 on an amp (tone and presence, for example) would be 50. But the gain knob is 0-120, which always confused me. What would I set that at to equal a setting of 10 on the amp (mimicking how I set up my JCM800)?

2) For amps that do not have a presence control (E.G. JC-120), what do I set the presence control to?

3) By default, the noise suppressors are in the channels, after each amp. But I run in single mode and have moved NS1 to the very beginning of the chain to clean the source. I placed the S/R after the preamp sections (mainly because they aren't gain related), and moved NS2 to just after the S/R module. If this was an actual floor unit setup, the NS modules would automatically be "NS Input" rather than monitoring the overall input. Should I set the NS modules to that, instead of just "Input", as is the default? I know it probably won't make much difference for the first one in the chain, but I want to be logical about it.

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. ~Drew

QuoteI have a copy of the GT Brilliance document,

That doc and many other important Roland/Boss GT/VG reference / tutorial docs can be downloaded from links in this thread

Once again, I have that one. And once again, maybe I missed something (even though I just scanned it again), NONE of the questions I ask are answered there. Can't somebody who already knows just tell me?

QuoteBy default, the noise suppressors are in the channels, after each amp.

The Noise suppressors are placed after the COSM Amps  to tame their own self induced noise on high gain models

The preamp settings are 'neutral' ay '50'  except for the Presence control which is boost only, so it is neutral at '0'.

It would have been better if Boss had labelled the preamp controls -50 to +50

The NS can be set as desired, but if you set it's input from NS to 'input, then if you have an effect in between like a reverb, the decay will be shorter as the NS gating will respond to the dry input.'

The Boss preamps are not exactly modelled to 'types' the amp names don't really mean anything, and the settings do not relate to real amp setting positions.
They are more of an approximation of real amps, I prefer to dial in my tone using my ears instead of my eyes.

The good thing with modelers (compared to individual stompboxes) is that there are no rules to placement in the chain, and you can achieve more unique tones.

Thanks Gum. Always count on you for a decent answer. But thanks to all who tried. =)
