But the upscale Icon V-Gig holds my interest! Rather like a NI Rig Kontrol on Steroids! I'll hunt them down at 2014 Winter NAMM and check them out.

Upon review  - its a shame neither provide any external expression pedal inputs

Its very tough to beat the value of using a Behringer FCB-1010 _ UNO ROM for $120

From the G-Board product description:

This is becoming a pet-peeve of mine (especially since it's reduced my $$$ Rig Kontrol 3 to a glorified paperweight):  any gear that's intentionally designed to make loud noises that aren't part of the music is less than ideal IMO.  I can see where some players might prefer the feel of these "robust" switches in that you can hunt around for a pedal without risk of accidentally pressing one, but they're only effective for certain environments/ applications, e.g. loud rock venues.  In a studio with live mics, these things are a major distraction or worse.  I'd rather have a quiet controller, develop the muscle memory to use it well, and decide for myself what sounds are or are not produced.

Hi everyone!

I casually wrote a review about the Icon G-board with specific configuration info related to Ableton Live:

Translated to English: http://translate.google.es/translate?sl=es&tl=en&prev=_t&hl=es&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.hispasonic.com/blogs/icon-g-board-review/37953&act=url

I also made a small mod to the editor, to display the actual image instead of a picture:

Hi!

I know this is a zombie thread but I need to know if anyone can tell me if it is possible to control the state of the diodes by sending MIDI messages to g-board?

I assume you mean the LEDS?

And I would also like to know what is the behavior when sending a NOTE message. Does it send NOTE#1value1 within every press, or like in FCB1010 it sends NOTE#1value1 after a press and NOTE#1value2 after releasing the button? Appreciate the help!

To change modes:
1 Select MODE (MODE).
2- Choose "Gboard" in "MIDI Devices"
3- Press the button "Send data" (the pedal will flash once)
Modes
GTR: Send CC (Continuous Controller) per switch.
Ableton Live: Send CC (Continuous Controller) dedicated to Ableton Live
Logic / Samplitude / cubase: Send controls according to Mackie Control protocol
Note: Send message midi Notes (ideal to activate modules or effects Guitar Rig)
CC: Send CC
Program: Change presets. Send Program Change message.
To change the presets in Guitar Rig or other soft use the latter mode.

Will this work...?  BOSS GP-10 => MIDX-10 => icon G-Board...???  Would like to commit myself to the G-Board as a patch changer-only midi controller.  Will I be able to assign patches from the GP-10 to the G-Board's foot switches....? or would I need a windows/Mac laptop ..?

QuoteBOSS GP-10 => MIDX-10 => icon G-Board.

No - Icon G Board is USB client device only.

You need another USB Host port device. ( IconnectMIDI, Kenton Host to MIDI , Raspberry Pi, PC/Mac)

If controlling the GP-10, you need

iCon G-Board > Kenton Host to MIDI > 5 pin MIDI Cable > MIDX-10 > GP-10

If you use a true 5 pin MIDI foot controller with 5 pin DIN (from list at URL link below)
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=12355.0

then you can connect as follows:
MIDI Foot Controller > 5 pin MIDI Cable > MIDX-10 > GP-10

JoBoss

Thanks a lot ...that has cleared up some clouds....will go for the FCB1010.  Guess the newer versions of FCB1010 wont need a UNO chip.... ??? ???

AFAIK you still need the UNO chip to get stompbox mode on the FCB1010.

Icon G-board 4 Hx Stomp - Midi Layout (mdp2 For Ios)

Ed_Saxman

How to turn a modest MIDI device on a monster controller for your HX STOMP!!

Maybe the iCon G-Board has ever called your attention as a possible partner for your HX STOMP. It's small, light, and has those typical guitar switches ... Oh no! It connects via USB and has no power connector, what a disappointment! You also can't store banks, and... it don't even have a screen!

But it can be powered through the Apple CCK USB 3 (also feeding the iPad), it is in a Class-Compliant device, it has eight beautiful LEDs on board, and the most important thing: it also receives MIDI!

Therefore, we just need a brain for it, something like an iPad! The wonderful MIDI Designer Pro 2 app, a wireless MIDI interface, and spend several dozen hours to create a semi-decent MIDI template. Or you can wait a few hours to have this one.

The top row controls the presets, which you choose from your iPad by sliding your finger on the selectors. Only one of the four LEDs will remain active, both on the pedalboard and on your screen. You can also automatically save 8 banks of 4 presets (A-H), each of them identified with a funny icon in the upper right of the screen.

The lower row contains the three Snapshot footswitches. Again, only the LED from the last selected FS will remain active.

The button in the lower right corner of the pedalboard is something special: it works in momentary mode and can act as any of the HX Stomp footswitches, from one to five. There is a 5-position selector around this footswitch, whose buttons also function as momentary push-buttons, so you can also activate them from the screen.

The large preset marker at the top center of the screen receives MIDI from the HX STOMP, as well as the looper buttons (remember that for the looper to work, it must be included in the effect chain)

You will also find other usual controls such as the mode selector, the Tap Tempo button, tuner, bypass, etc. All this in a single-screen, colorful interface. No configuration is required by the user.
Perhaps the easiest way in the world to use your HX STOMP. Seriously.
So easy to use that even a child will want to do it.

Among the requirements are:
HX STOMP
Apple iPad
Apple CCK USB 3, cable and charger
iCon G-Board (USB cable is provided)
Yamaha MD-BT1 or Quicco M.1 (wireless MIDI-BT interface)
MIDI Designer Pro 2 (IOS App)
This MIDI Layout (available soon)

We could consider that this represent a form of semi-tethered connection, in the sense that we will connect the iPad and the pedal board to each other, and both to an AC connector through the USB3 CCK, on the one hand, and the data will travel wirelessly to the HX STOMP, which can be a few meters away, sitting calmly on top of your amp, while your iPad faces the stage. Or simply sit on your couch with your iPad and your G-Board, and enjoy your HX STOMP with this superb controller. It also works without the G-Board! (so you can use it right now, while ordering your G-Board at your nearest store)

See you soon!
Ed.
