Hi, as the subject says, can the gr55 be used as a midi to dmx light controller. I know keyboards can do it, it would be cool if the lights were in sync with the guitar parts.

Cheers

Yes, it sure can.
Make sure the GR-55 guitar to midi output is 'on' in the system midi settings.

My choice of DMX software is FreeStyler,

I use a DIY midi cc# foot controller to control lighting scenes, each scene uses 128 DMX channels.
It can be setup to respond to midi note data too.

Cheers gumtown,
Have you or anyone else used the iPad app of freestyler? If I could the iPad it would easier than bringing a laptop.

It is all here

a D.I.Y USB midi/DMX pedal,
The pedal buttons each send a midi cc# message from a PIC micro controller to a USB midi adapter, to a USB mini hub, to the windows laptop running FreeStyler.
Freestyler is setup to receive midi and select a certain lighting scene associated with the midi cc# command.

Freestyler sends the DMX data via USB back to the DIY controller, through the USB hub, to a USB/RS422 adapter (FTDI chipset), which is connected to a wireless DMX transmitter, the DMX is received by all the wireless lighting fixtures, each with a unique DMX address.

FreeStyler can be setup to work with any midi data, just select a function, set midi learn mode, and send the midi message to work with.
