Not sure if this project has been mentioned here (tried to search with no results).

At least to me it seems very interesting, its a thing that Im thinking about long time (even I considered to make my own with some engineer friends although never advanced very much really) has it would enhance greatly the control over effects and synths directly from the guitar.

Maybe it has to much controllers on board and the design and layout is not the most beautiful that I have ever seen. To be honest I'm not sure I want to have something so big and bulky on my guitar and I think it can be a handicap for many guitarist which may seen it too obtrusive.

There is a project fund running here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/livid/guitar-wing-wireless-control-surface-for-guitar-an

With luck we will resurrect a similar project

I just went and supported their kickstarter.  Livid are good folks and they have proven that they can come out with quality product.

Y'all should consider supporting too!

I emailed Livid to see if Guitar Wing would work with an iPad without an intermediary computer.  They said that it would via Bluethooth connection to the USB MIDI dongle and Camera Connector.  They also said that they do have plans for an iPad app that would enable direct Guitar Wing<->iPad connection over Bluetooth.

My laptop is nearing end-of-life, so I'm likely to use Guitar Wing with an iPad effects app like Swoopster, Turnado, or maybe even Loopy.  Triggering sequencers or even more oddball apps like Lemur is also a possibility.

EDIT:  I see they have updated their Kickstarter page with a mention of iConnectMIDI for usage with hardware MIDI gear (no computer required).

I assume this will not work correctly with left handed guitars because of the layout? I wonder if upper bout placement would make sense ergonomically.

Interesting, had not seen this before.  Seems like this + GR-55 + class compliant USB to MIDI cable might open the GR-55 up to some of the tactile control that it is missing.  E.g. map some knobs to guitar tone, amp tone stack controls, etc.  Then at least for guitar & amp type patches, you'd have tactile control over the basics without kneeling and menu surfing.

Recently I asked this question to Livid's support team:

06/20/2014 3:26 pm
"Before I purchase your new Guitar wing, I need to know if multiple midi channels can be assigned in one setting. I will not be using a computer, except for initial setup. Live, I will have the Wing receiver connected to an iConnect Midi4+, and from there to a Roland VG88, and a Roland GR30. For example, I will be using it for patch changes on two different units. Channel 1 will use some switches, and/or pads to change prests on my Roland Vg88, and channel 2 will use other switches, and/or pads to change patches on my Roland GR30. One of the sliders would control CC#7 on Ch.1, while another slider controls CC#7 on Ch.2. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Mark"

Here is today's reply:
"Off the bat in the initial release, this will not be possible. However, we are going to work quickly to release the editor which will allow you to set different midi channels for different controls."

Great news for anyone who wishes to replace their foot controllers. On my GAS list!!!

I am sooooooo.... tempted...

I noticed in the overview video that Vernon Reid was interviewed to discuss & promote the product!
Address the process rather than the outcome.  Then, the outcome becomes more likely.   - Fripp

When the editor is fully assignable, I'm going for it!

Not the same thing at all

Guitar Wing is a Wireless remote controller that transmits MIDI CC#/Aftertouch Controller messages, and does NOT perform "Guitar to MIDI" function - like the Fishman Tripleplay does

There is a bundle with JamOrigin Midi Guitar software and the Guitar Wing for $250.00.

I am super tempted but need to get the GP-10 first.

You know,  with a GK-3,  and a Guitar Wing on a Strat, the guitar really would look like a Borg-o-caster, wouldn't it?    ;D

I want it!

Livid Instruments has finally released the long-awaited Guitar Wing Editor, however it's still a "beta" version. Before the editor can be used a firmware update is required.

Cool hope I can fix with it the somewhat erratic behavior of controls.

Thanks for letting me know.

The Guitar Wing Editor provides a taste of its control possibilities.
(download here)

I actually like the communications debug window that displays all real time communications during Guitar Wing setup

My hardware is not here yet - but here is the Editor screen capture

and the Companion "Wing FX" for Ipad  is now in the App store

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wingfx/id918578403?mt=8

WingFX offers instant access to guitar effects, filters, samples, and more. WingFX is specifically designed to match the unique controls on your Livid Instruments Guitar Wing controller - use the Guitar Wing hardware to dynamically control your FX as you play.

Don't have a Guitar Wing? The app is still fully functional and you can interact with the touch screen to control the FX.

Plug in your instrument and headphones, flip the software switch to "On", and start jamming.

You will need audio input to your device as well as headphones.

I was going to try playing around with  Livid Instruments  "Wing FX"  for iPad - but this app is the first Ive seen this error message:

* This application requires iOS 8.0 or Later. *

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wingfx/id918578403?mt=8

I'm sticking with iOS 7.1.2 for iPad Air  since I'm not interested in breaking many of my older apps

My Guitar Wing arrives later today!

HelloMusic used Fedex Home as the carrier, and here in my town that is the worst method, they never deliver on Saturdays and don't work on Mondays, so because they insist on my signature, I won't see the Guitar Wing until next Tuesday evening.
FedEx Home sucks!
