Anyone running the beta yet? I'm curious as to what the scoop is with latency, specifically if it stinks or not. I've been having a rough go of it lately with iOS10, making software amp sims nearly unusable, which is very disappointing for me. With a small interface, small keyboard, and an iPad, I had a one-stop shop of a writing scratchpad, without having to lug a laptop.

Now I'm seriously looking at the 2 pound MacBook, because the iPad (even my Pro) isn't cutting the mustard anymore.

With each new IOS release,it gets worse for musicians with higher audio latency

I expect this disturbing trend to continue
thats what i experience

And Its so boring to be asked every day to upgrade to IOS 10.3, Im getting really tired about it.

go to Setting, then notifications, then to the App Store, then go to Allow Notificaion then turn that option off.

My notification is off but I was still getting the irritating prompt, what worked for me was:

Settings->General->Storage&Icloud usage->Manage Storage->Scroll to IOS 10.3.2 (or whatever the downloaded update is) and delete it. This will also free up the space on your phone and stop the prompts (at least in my case)

Wow!
I believed that I was condemned to have those warnings forever, I applied both suggestions, in my two devices, I hope to never see them again.
It is very sad the drift that is taking Apple for musicians, you can not buy new computers, nor new iPads?!? they are crazy?

They are simply going after the features important to the most popular / largest populace (and those are NOT musicians)

As Frank Zappa sang:

"They just takes care of NUMBER ONE  -An' NUMBER ONE ain't YOU
You ain't even NUMBER TWO
[/i]

QuoteNot that I expect it to do any good, but I sent a message to Tim Cook.  Congratulations Apple, this is your New Coke moment.

I have an app that I can use to play a virtual pipe organ for a church without an organ - MIDI keyboards and MIDI pedalboard.  Going forward it will be difficult if not impossible to connect to the existing sound system.  The sad fact is that the sound is fabulous, but as pointed out Bluetooth latency is not acceptable...not an option for sound or MIDI.  I can't decide if the people who ultimately signed off on the decision to remove the analog audio spigot are cluless to the customer base they just alienated or are just flat out arrogant.

Then they should just say as such, and stop making GarageBand for it. What's the point of having that, if it doesn't actually work well? I guess I'm just frustrated, because it did work well for years, and now that seems to be coming to an end. Kinda makes me want to build a crazy tower for home, and get a modest Surface Pro, and ditch Apple altogether.

No way. I've been down that road before, ever since Fedora 3 and Planet CCRMA. Obviously it's gotten way better, but it's still not as good as Apple or Windows.

I did the superpowered.com test on my 9.7 iPad Pro, and got 11ms without anything connected. Not sure how I can determine what it is with my Sonicport VX or iTwo connected.

1 ) I use a separate stereo audio recorder. I like the Zoom H4N, or an old Iphone4 with Fostex AR4i Audio interface and an IOS audio recording app like Refire or White recorder.

2 ) Left channel is Audio output from a headstock mounted piezo clip on pickup typically sold as an accessory for Peterson Strobe tuners. This provides immediate response from your guitar.

Peterson TP-3 Tuning Pickup

Left Channel audio will be used as the Master timing reference.

3 ) Right channel is output audio from your "unit under test"

4 ) After making the 1 minute recording of your playing, load resulting Stereo Wave file in WaveLab or Soundforge and zoom in and look at the Left Channel. Use this Left Channel audio (from the headstock piezo pickup) as a reference to measure the Right Channel's  "unit under test" millisecond(s) offset delay.
This is your latency.
The above strategy can be employed to measure any latency of any DSP guitar gadget or full rig.

** Note if you want higher accuracy  - replace the stereo audio recorder from step #1 with a dual trace storage oscilloscope

Could that be done just by running a two channel interface, with the Peterson going to one input, and the iPad+iOS interface the other?

Sure!

Cool man, thanks! I might give it a go, though the more I think about it, I might sadly retreat to just using my MacBook for audio, unless things eventually improve. It's a shame, because my iPad Pro has more power than past Macs that did audio fine.

I've always had a downer on using the FTP with Sampletank on iPad because of latency but last night I had a sort of epiphony when I discovered the source of the latency was actually Kymatica's AUM software!

I ran Sampletank on it's own and response was great - as soon as I ran it within AUM there was a noticable additional latency - even though AUM was reporting the sample latency was only 1.5ms which I really shouldn't be able to feel should I? It feels laggy via AUM (set on 64 samples - the lowest setting it can run) - noticably different against Sampletank on it's own - which when in Ultra low latency mode is great!

Weird. Problem is I need some sort of mixer to balance Sampletank, Korg iM1 and Tonestack...

Had a eureka moment the other day - AUM mixer has an HQ mode in the settings. Not sure why it's called that because what it actually does is nothing to do with sound quality but everything to do with latency reduction. It disables a load of internal iOS mic/audio unnecesary stuff and reduces latency massively!!

And my god does it reduce latency - it is night and day!! in fact I'm pretty sure it reduces the latency to less than the native Sampletank running on it's own as stand alone. Seriously.

uber cool. uber fast. It needs to be your default setting. It's just elevated my ipad into proper usable synth to match hardware territory.

Very impressed.

Thanks for the info.
Which IOS and ipad versión do you have?

Not supported because they were already discontinued by the manufacturer.

The VSC was updated yesterday and works under iOS 11 without flaws

Any experience with iOS 11, audio apps, latency?

QuoteMy iPad Air 2 turned sluggish after the recent 11 update. Webpages reload every time I come back to a tab which is very annoying, and it sutters when I scroll up and down. Wish I never updated.

And Im considering at this momment to upgrade my pro 9.7 to an pro 10.5...
There is a good sale that ends tomorrow, I should do it?

Idgolfguy

I have the old Pro 12.9 and the 10.5. Noticeable performance difference when using Auria etc.

Not sure how discernible between 9.7 and 10.5 Pros.
Screen real estate is prime though.
