In case you have not heard of AUDIOBUS for IPAD I wanted to share this with you guys.

Basically Audiobus is an app-to-app audio streaming for iOS, which means that you could record/stream from one app to another.
Release date is 10th of December.
To begin with it supports the following apps:
Funkbox (input slot)
JamUp XT (effects slot)
JamUp Pro XT (effects slot)
Loopy (input and output slot)
Loopy HD (input and output slot)
MultiTrack DAW (output slot)
NLog MIDI Synth (input, effects and output slot)
NLog Synth PRO (input, effects and output slot)
Rebirth for iPad (input slot)
SoundPrism Pro (input slot)
Sunrizer Synth for iPad (input slot)

Read more here:
http://audiobus.tumblr.com/

This could really make it worth using IPAD as a lightweight studio, either for jamming, on tour, on the go, for looping (it supports the Loopy HD app that has been mentioned here before), or in any other way you are using it.

Any idea when if/when iphone version will be available? Is it a separate app or a technology built into the supported apps?

Sounds great, I love using Loopy (can be used with a hacked bluetooth keyboard as foot pedal) and the possibility of using an amp sim like jam up with it would be great

The iphone version will be released at the same date, so december 10th. It is a seperate app that "unites" the others that supports its functions.
The list I provided is the apps supported at release, alot of other apps are on the way.
Watch this video, it clears up what it is. ;) Enjoy

Testing this now. It works, and it works well. I cant tell if it is adding any latency, but it seems not to.

Opens up a whole crapload of new possibilities... im really excited about this.

I havent tried this myself yet.
But I will do anytime soon now.

Has anyone tried it? Does it work as intended?
I see now that a lot off apps have added audiobus compatibility lately

cell7

tried it - loving it - it works exactly as it is supposed to. Even better actually!
Im in the process of developing a sound-design app to plug in to this system :o)

Awesome. I am going to buy it to. I have waited a long long time for this.
Cant wait to try it out.
Are you using it for any recording from one app to another? In case yes which?

Suggest you review this thread at CreateDigital Music -with a full Video explaining AudioBus and which apps work.

http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/12/ios-three-way-yes-with-audiobus-you-can-run-three-music-apps-together-on-ipad-video/

I was looking for first hand experience from users on this forum. That video doesnt really show the potential for guitar players imo.
I might consider making some videos in the future looking at this from a guitar players perspective.

Description

AUDIOBUS SUPPORT! USE AMPLITUBE WITH OTHER AUDIO APPS IN REAL TIME.

Turn your iPhone®/iPod touch® into the ultimate mobile guitar-and-bass multi-effects processor and recording studio with AmpliTube, now with the amazing Loop Drummer module. Loop Drummer makes it quick and easy to create killer drum tracks for recording, jamming and more.

Use an iRig® or iRig® STOMP interface to connect your guitar or bass to your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch® and iRig® MIDI to connect your floor controller.

Play, practice and record anytime and everywhere with world-class guitar and bass tones and effects, drums from Loop Drummer, and multitrack recording from the leader in analog gear-modeling software.

AmpliTube puts a full guitar/bass rig at your fingertips with 3 stompboxes, an amp-head, cabinet and microphone. FWIW, the Slash pack is definitely worth it. I really enjoy the two models, and I'm not even really a Marshall guy.

Update: Audiobus released its SDK publicly yesterday, an indication of just how fast this scene is moving. The documentation is copious and comes with loads of sample projects and the like:
http://developer.audiob.us
The Audiobus developers have done an exceptional job, and I think they create a strong incentive for Audiobus support – and have the momentum. However, it is worth saying as a developer, implementing JACK support is actually vastly easier than implementing Audiobus support. In fact, the API is very similar to our API for libpd, the open source embeddable Pure Data engine – partly because libpd's audio API was modeled on a simplified JACK API (though that's a long story).

Jack for IOS
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=8194.0

Both give developers a bunch of functionality, and almost no particular license obligation, for free. The answer to the question, "will some developers support all of the above and see what sticks?" Yes, probably. But it is worth saying: JACK does a lot more, and the amount of code you have to add it almost comically trivial. Some developers have probably already spent more time reading this article or replying to comments than it'd take to do.

Just like some of the other emerging technologies, I see apps supporting both, if they're that easy. No reason not to. However with Audiobus first on the block, Jack has a lot of work to do to catch up.

AudioBus take up rate is looking great! Apple supporting it in GarageBand is almost an unprecedented sign. I predict AudioBus being bought over by AAPL in the near future and the technology or a variant of it being integrated into core IOS.

Audiobus 2 is looking amazing. Multiple channels, modular architecture, unlimited apps...
If they can also bring down the latency then this is truly a great update, and would put it back in the lead over apple's inter-app audio node.

When they make bold claims like that  - I loose interest, because I know better.

Well to be fair that was my paraphrasing. What they are saying is as many apps as the device can handle [as opposed to the 3 apps maximum that the existing audiobus is limited to]. Given the fact that device power effectively doubles each iteration, this is pretty damn interesting to me [as an app maker!].

Elantric

Quotee 3 apps maximum that the existing audiobus is limited to

My point is that after buying a new  iPad Air 128GB, three Audio apps remains about the upper limit of simultaneous audio apps my iPad can handle.

Despite listening to 4 years of IOS Musician type podcasts where people were reporting running 6-8 apps at once - I now view that with high skepticism.
