Any idea where to start in order to get that really mechanized sounding power chord riffs / melodic lines during the chorus?

Forgive me, I'm going tone crazy.

It sounds pretty much like muted eighth note power chord strums with a little extra distortion and maybe a gate to keep it really tight.  The sequenced sounding lines could be done with two handed tapping I would guess....  Brings me back a couple decades - who did this song anyway?

Î recall this track was a sampler.  That is, a keyboard player performed this using samples of guitar sounds. Happens all the time.

The movie theme however is a different story, as that has Slash

Yep.  A good example is "The Big Money" by Rush.  The first verse "rhythm guitar" is actually a sample of a distorted electric guitar that was sampled into a PPG Waveterm at the time.

Live of course it's Alex Lifeson playing along side the sampler playback.

What awesome insight!  I should've figured it was a sampler.
