RC-50 Why do in/out jacks get labelled L/Mono?

Before you smack your palm against your forehead, yes I do understand that those jacks are labelled like that for playing in mono... But after playing around with my RC-50 and GT-10, it doesn't seem to matter which channel you use to output in mono? Also, does anyone know why the RC-50 is labelled R/Mono as opposed to L/Mono?

If there is a stereo effect, the R channel only gets half the effect, and can sound odd.    The L/Mono detects the lack of a 2nd cable and mixes both channels to a single output.    To really hear the difference usually requires using a patch/input source with dramatic separation, like a panning effect.   Not sure why its R/mono, shouldn't make a difference, really....

Maybe those devices can detect the lack of a 2nd cable either way....     Test with an autopanning voice.
