For a meat and potatoes Henderson tone try my "NotSantana" patch.  It is basically a replica of my Mesa Studio preamp which is what Henderson used in the TT early days.  It's attached here in this message.

His blues sound came later which was a totally different setup and I'll have to work on putting that together som eother time

My fusion clean tone which could pass for the Henderson fusion clean tone is the "Landau Clean" which is similar to the Mike Landau tune "I'm Buzzed" rhythm guitar tone.

anyone up for tweaking the most "outrageous flippant but still playable sound " that the VG99 can handle
pref. with a soundfile
I made a patch for GR https://soundcloud.com/brak-e-man-prod/flying

Wow, sounds like circuits frying!  What tweaking are you looking for?

I should say thank you !!

well the more the merrier
I read about Reeves Gabrels burning amp vg8 simulation
on Earthling , he tried to make a patch that sounded like an
amp on fire whilst being played and ended up using that patch a lot.

the crazier the better. ;)
also that he used to play the VG8 in edit mode ,
since you could tweak since you where not able to in play mode
so the more realtime tweakability the better.

LOL that is exactly how I used to describe my old Boogie Mark IIc+.  :)  That amp was possessed.

At the time in 1996 when Bowie's Earthling CD arrived with Reeves Gabrels performing bulk of the music with the Roland VG-8 on every track, I thought this was the future,

And  tube amps would be dead in a couple years

and just maybe the young generation of guitarists would cease being stuck trying to master every SRV lick (bulk are actually Albert Kings licks from '64).

I was wrong.

aliensporebomb

The worst part is the guys who DRESS like SRV with their initials on the pickguard.  It's not enough to play his licks, they want to look like him too.  Oh well.

Mark IIc+  Love that amp - the preamp section of my Studio Preamp supposedly is the same circuit design.

I've actually got a bunch of new patches to submit but was working on one that was kind of like an electric wall of sound.

I used to feel self-conscious playing Jems and Universes because they are so Vai-branded, but hey I loved the guitars.  But someone else's initials in a massive font definitely crosses some kind of line.  :)  (Actually, I can't even see putting my own initials on my pickguard.)

For me it's the proverbial big one that got away.  Loved it to bits, but I was too young and stupid to realize what a mistake selling it would be... and so I did... for a song.   :'(

my whole idea with asking about patches of the odder kind, is just what you're talking about, regarding\SRV and such.
my approach to vg guitar is to try make sounds that aren't possible or easy to make in the real world, the fact that you can also make an SRV patch is a bonus but not more.

I am too interested in a Pat Metheny sound!

Especially the sound in the piece . Listen from 2:04 to the Pat Metheny solo

That's the sound !
here you have it to

That GR300 sound?

Grab Dr. Wayne Joness' patch here:
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=6083.75#msg51833

It's called GR-300-MIDI-CONTROL.MID and then start from there - up the gain, turn on the duet, compression and then go crazy.  Work with the pitch ranges too such as octave +1 and see if you can't sound like it.  I think it will work.

Thanks! I am going to try it! :)

I really like the sound of Carl Verheyen in this video from 1:31 to 1:57!

Could someone reproduce that with the VG99? Or guide me on how to reproduce it?

Yeah.  Use a fuzz face model with some compression in front of a semi-clean Marshall model and you can get in that neighborhood.  Maybe use a little delay or reverb for some ambience.  I might have a patch similar to that.

Thank you for your response! :) I am going to try what you say.. but are you sure about the fuzz face? Because I don't hear any fuzz at all in Carl's sound! It is extra-smooth! If you have a patch similar to that, I would be grateful if you could upload it. I would then try to tweak it and make it as similar as possible to the sound I am after! :)

It's the Eric Johnson trick - the semi-distorted Marshall smooths out the fuzz so it doesn't sound like Fuzz.  That's why EJ gets the tone he does (today) - it's a fuzz face in front of a Marshall.

As an aside, James Santiago of Voodoo Lab did a thing where he ran an Eric Johnson fuzz face thru the Voodoo Lab Giggity pedal into a Marshall and got an amazing EJ Ah Via Musicom tone - basically mimicking the sound of Eric using a fuzz face in front of a Dumble amp which was a signal chain EJ was using back in the 1980s.

Which is totally UNLIKE Eric's tone today - his is more normal fuzz face smoothing into a Marshall for a more singing liquid lead type tone with much less overt delay.  Only in certain  instances do you hear the overt fuzz of it but this is a pretty good example of how tones on record can be aped by mimicking signal chains and certain playing techniques.  I own one of those giggity pedals and it's pretty slick.

I've been tweaking but not really satisfied with the result.
I'll work some more on it and post the result in a few days.

I'm working on it
but the Gr300 emulation in 99 isn't as close as working with the dual synth algorithm , weird but.......
and the best metheny GR sound so far is in the VG8ex

Did you hear this one?

Bill Ruppert found out if you crank the GK levels really high the GR300 model in the VG-99 "wakes up!"
His demo still blows my mind, sounds like Eddie Jobson.

if you mean the UK mp3 one yes
but it sounds to me more like
the solo sound of Frisell around 4.30
in this song
and the Metheny sound is much more smother and rounder.
I'm wondering if it's the GR-300 or not

It's a GR300.  I've seen Metheny in concert and the blue GR-300 is a mainstay.
