I've made over 100 patches for the VG and I thought I'd upload my latest creation.
I decided to take a break from the regular "Metal" patches that I like to create to make something different.  I crossposted this in Alternate tunings as well.

Its been argued that Robert Johnson tuned his guitar a half step down and then to open A and then capo'd it at the 2nd fret to B for his famous Crossroad Blues.
So instead, what I did here was create an open B tuning and I adjusted the Detune down -50 as his guitar was only relatively in tune.  You should be able to play along fine with the original recording.

Load this patch up and play with a slide in stereo or with headphones on.

I used PAZ Frequency Analyzer to match the Eq'ing with Roberts original vinyl/wax recording as well.

I made a room reverb and tweaked it to make it sound like the makeshift studio he was in.

I spent between 5 and 6 hours creating this patch.  I'm surprised my family hasn't divorced me (yet).

very cool.... thanks for posting your thoughts and steps.

Well thanks.  Making patches is a fun hobby or shall I say a distraction from practicing the guitar or overcoming writers block.  It fills the procrastination void so as to convey an excuse for the procrastination.   ;)

Something odd?
My download plays very out of tune and very odd. Downloaded with Intel Mac. Gotta try with PC now.

Creating sounds IS practicing.  Being able to pull a given tone is invaluable skill.  You only get good at it by doing it.  There you go.  No other excuse needed.  Can't wait to give the patch a try.

Yes, its just like the old wax record.  If you A/B them they're pretty close.  An overall crappy tone in deed but that was Robert Johnson.
I also recommend some rusty strings.  There we go, a new model option for the VG.  V-strings.  Choose from different brands, age, and oxidization level ;)

foolevil,

you're probably hearing the sounds of the normally-tuned strings clashing with the VG alternate tuning. Headphones or just turning it up will let the VG patch from the amp/PA cover up the sounds coming straight off the strings.

Mac or PC won't make the difference that you're describing.

This is fantastic!  I'm always interested when you guys make patches sound REALLY old.  It's something we don't hear often around here, but should, considering the power the VG-99 has.

A2theT

Agreed.  I'm all over the map with my patch creations from Delta Blues, to Synth, to Thrash Metal.
Only because of the capabilities and joy of owning the best guitar processor in the world (IMO) !

Sounds good, and really nice playing too.

Very nicely done - reminds me quite a bit of that old blues sound on a denoised wax cylinder.  Nice!  The VG surprises again.  I did a mellotron type sound where I rolled the high end off slightly to make it sound like it was on a 1970s record album but this really has that old vibe.  Slick.

Thanks, that was the goal of the patch.  low fidelity using EQs as Bill R. also endorses.  You can create a lot with the VG.  These are the kind of things Roland should have showcased when they introduced the unit.  I'm sure they will do the same thing with the VG-100.  Throw in 200 non-impressive presets.
