Open any multiple patch file in GR-55 Librarian, and just copy (Ctrl+C) the patches you need and paste (Ctrl+V) them into the main window. Now you can write <all> 99 banks, or <selected> patches into the GR-55 (Multiple select using LMB+Ctrl or LMB+Shift).
Of-course patches organised like this (as in a database) allows you to select them using the column ordering, e.g. you can quickly select patches by a certain author or all the electric guitars in the metal genre.

Color me confused, as this is not working for me.  FYI I'm using a MacBook Pro. Based upon having loaded the "top 25" from Roland (and agree with whomever here questioned why those are the top 25) I *think* the issue is each patch is an individual file, and not contained as one "master" g5l file...maybe?

All the patches posted here are also being sponged up for the GR-55Floorboard editor, for all to share and be on hand for all to use.  ;D
I'm new to the GR-55, and have installed the Floorboard editor. Does this mean that all these patches are within the \Program Files\GR-55FloorBoard\saved_patches folder?

With Floorboard Editor installs on Windows - yes -

But the "1,439" Patches in this thread are from an archive created in 2014  - there are at least 50 more been added  , with more to come.

Find them one by one in genre categories here

Well, I am still not able to load more than one patch at a time, from those compiled patches Tone put together.  If anyone can tell me specifically how to do this, I would be willing to buy you a beer.  I can use either the Librarian or Floorboard (though I haven't used the Floorboard, at all, yet).  Please, help a gtr-bro out.

Has there been an updated compilation patch release?  I've seen (and used, thanks!!) a few other patches uploaded since the date on the comprehensive listing.  Thanks!

Good Days Everybody!
I have to sincerely thank everyone involved here in compiling this massive amount of information for these past years. WoW! I'm just getting started and its remarkable to find not only such an in depth site, but a phenomenal caliber of participants and moderators. I've been pretty heavily impacted as an artist with the connection with so many great tones , but this is truly next level. I'm off to go put this all together,
A huge heartfelt Thank You to all,

Just wanted to say hi, and thanks for all of the wonderful resources on here. I just got a Godin Spectrum and a GR55 with a view to doing some live work, I opted for them both on the strength of reading the pro's and con's on here. I have a very steep learning curve ahead of me, but it will be made easier by having the "VGF" behind me. Coming on here always leaves me feeling revved up and eager to learn.
You're a very giving bunch and it's appreciated.

Anyone else here have a problem where you are trying to load a patch (from this forum) but the GR-55 either maintains the previous patch parameters, or maintains the "Init Patch" parameters, or even combines the two?

I've had this issue with a few of the patches, namely the "Maggie May," "Boston" (band) and "HB Hells Bells" patches.  I have tried resetting the 55 and the Mac.  I've redownloaded the patch library from page 1.  But nothing is changing.  Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

Skip the Roland GR-55 Librarian

Instead use Gumtowns GR-55 Floorboard Editor
https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/files/GR-55/

to open patches downloaded from here

TheParasite

Not sure this posted the first time.  So...

Anyone have an issue with the GR-55 where you are trying to load a patch, but it won't do it, or at least not load correctly?

This has happened on several patches, but namely these three come to mind:
- Maggie May
- Boston (MTAF patch?)
- HB Hells Bells

Either the original "Init Patch" remains, or a screwed up version of the patch loads, or a combination of the two loads.  For instance, loading HB Hells Bells patch, the Init Patch plays, till I hit CTL, then the overdrive/distortion kicks in which kinda sounds like the AC/DC tone, except it's now layered on top of the Init Patch.

I have wiped the 55 back to it's factory defaults.  I have reset it numerous times, as well as the Mac.  I have re-downloaded the zipped files.  Still, the same result.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I failed to mention that I've done that.  It works.  However, I have yet to figure out how to load...

multiple .g5l files into the floorboard at one time, then into the 55 for saving.  I was under the impression this would work; under the impression I would end up with cascading windows (or something of the sort).  Instead, I am only able to load one file into the floorboard and then save that one file, not multiples.

That was one reason I used the Librarian...I could set up my patches in order of use and bulk load them into the 55.

Again, if I'm wrong then please point it out.  But even reading the directions it doesn't state one can truly "bulk" load and save.

The Roland Librarian has a bug/issue with the file formats, since the 2012 firmware update to 1.50 and does not work properly.

GR-55FloorBoard can only load one file at a time into the GR-55 in selective User memory slot locations,
but does have a feature to load bulk patch file bundles as a backup/restore into a selected User memory range.

" but does have a feature to load bulk patch file bundles as a backup/restore into a selected User memory range."

That's what I'm not getting.  I would think that could mean I am able to open multiple files at one time and have them load into the 55. But, I am only able to select one file at a time to open; can't even select a directory of say, 10 patches that would be bulk loaded onto the 55.

Thanks, but I have already read that, multiple times, in trying to figure it out.

Bulk patch files contain similar information but for multiple patches, up to the entire patch memory of the GR55, or 297 patches. The fifth and sixth items under the File menu are for saving and loading bulk patches, where you can select the patch number range to save and load.

I suspect this is what I keep missing:

Use this menu selection to load a file from the computer containing a group of patches to the GR55. File types *.g5l, *.mid, *.syx are supported and you can specify which Bank and Patch numbers.
So, how do I combine several single patches into one file for loading onto the 55?

Maybe this dog is just too old to learn another new trick....

gumtown

It's a "catch22" because to make a bulk bundle of patch files you do so by making a backup bundle from the GR-55.

Loading single patch files is not so bad,
as you would want to 'audition' each patch before loading into the GR-55.
Just by opening a patch in the editor (with the GR-55 connected) you can audition/hear the patch,
make required changes (since a User shared patch never matches every-ones setup and requirements),
then save it into the GR-55.

TheParasite

Well, that makes sense to me.  I was hoping to load 20 or more patches at once to the 55 so I can run through and check them out.  Oh well, it's working as designed and still better than the Librarian.  Thanks for the explanation.
