Title: SY-300 - Faux FM Chimes: Dx7-like chimes awash in Reverb/Delay
Post by: Rhcole on May 18, 2017, 11:26:16 PM
This is one of those "Bet you thought it couldn't do it" patches for the SY. Truth be told, there's actually nothing "faux" going on here. With the Lo-Fi effect and ring modulator carefully modulating the Oscs, this patch is using primitive FM synthesis to create its high-pitched ringing sounds. What you have here are chime-like metallic octaves blended in a wash of delay and verb. It's not just FM noise, though, it follows your playing cleanly and actually is nicely polyphonic.

A little goes a long with with this patch, so I have it set low using the Ctl1 to select a somewhat higher level. If you are really into it, turn the Osc mixer up.

Combined with other pedals, it requires good control to explore as it will grab harmonic content and get carried away, which is interesting if you like to experiment. Myself, I like it for the chimey crisp edge it creates at low settings.

Hey Chlorinemist,

I heard your SoundCloud example using hex. Think you'd love the SY.
