Title: GT-1 - Gumtown's GT-1 FX Floorboard
Post by: gumtown on May 02, 2017, 02:08:50 PM
EDIT:
For those who want to skip straight to the chase,
here is

GT-1FxFloorBoard
https://sourceforge.net/projects/fxfloorboard/files/GT-1FxFloorBoard/

I was having a quick squizz through the GT-1 amps and OD/DS types,
and noticed the Custom Amp and Custom OD/DS are not there.
Nor are 10 effects each in FX1 and FX2 that the GT-100/001 has.

Perhaps these might be accessible like with the Katana ??

I'm sure some guy sitting in a control room at a power utility with some time at hand will have to check it up, otherwise he won't sleep properly  ;D

Ok sure enough, I had a spare hour to conjure this up...
For all those GT-1 users who have always wondered if the GT-1 possesses the same "Sneaky features" like the Katana, here it is.
a reincarnation of the GT-100 editor, modified to shower the GT-1 with GT-100 command parameters in GT-1 type speak.

a windows version for a start anyway..

Fantastic and amazing!

No time to try today but I'm hoping for the weekend.
I met up again with my hometown teenage band from 35 years ago and my GT-1 will be handy as a reunion mini rig  :D

Gumtown, I'm on a Mac so can't see the editor yet, but how does this work?  Are those hidden Amps in there already, or is your editor doing something else?

Read the Help to get you in the ballpark

the Help file that gets installed is based upon the GR-55  - so there is much info in the Katana FX Floorboard HELP file that is not applicable to the katana

The GT-1 actually has all the GT-100 amps, so there are no extra 'sneaky' ones  except for the "custom" amps and 6 extra amp parameters.

other stuff to check is the OD/DS custom types too.

For both GT-1 and Katana ,  I'm hoping the Control Assign area can be expanded to support MIDI CC as Sources

I downloaded and installed Foorboard GT-1, but am getting "bad data" when it tries to do upload.  The GT-1 is connected and selected as midi device.  Version is 1.07, and Tone Studio works correctly....

I get "Error - System data was not transferred", and then Floorboard comes up with "bad data" in all the slots..

Is there a switch I'm missing?

Update: It is connected; I hit "auto sync" and the GT-1 is messaging "Bulk Data Sending..."  Is that encouraging?  Is it sending everything?  How long does it take?

So...
Has anyone tried the software, and found any extra features not accessible from the gT-1 or Tone Studio interface?

Custom amps or Custom OD/DS maybe?

There was an experimental GT-1FxFloorBoard I posted a few months back
for experimental users to try and find any hidden "sneaky" GT-100 features within the GT-1.

Much interest was posted in creating a software to probe the GT-1,
but after it was built and uploaded,
no one replied as to what was found (as I don't have a GT-1 to find out myself), so I recently deleted it.

Hi Gumtown, I got myself a GT-1 at the beggining of the summer. If your intention was to create a GT-1 FxFloorBoard at some point and needed some help, I can give a hand. I didn't know until now that there was a version of your application for the GT-1. I am a software developer so I can certainly do some testing and report any findings. If I know what feedback you are looking for.

I did some quick research this summer by looking at the exported livesets of the GT-100 and the GT-1. You must already be aware that these are in json format, easily readable using an editor that understands json and can reformat it. I used notepad++ with the json plugin. I did edit a GT-1 patch in a liveset trying to enable some effects/parameters/functionnality found in the GT-100 and see if they would magically appear in my GT-1. Result? No luck at all for now.

I don't know if the only intended use of the FxFloorBoard is to access undocumented features of the GTs it supports. If not, it certainly would be nice to see the GT-1 in its list of supported devices.

Let me know if I can help.

Typical Roland / Boss. At first glance the GT-1 looks like it has the same software, options and possibilities as the GT-001 and GT-100.
But it's not the same. Dealbreaker for me is the absence of the parameter Direct Signal in the speaker sim. That was a dealbreaker with the GR-55 too. All my gain-sounds consist of more or less 15% Direct Signal but that's impossible with the GT-1. What a pitty.......

the original version Gumtown posted was simply a non working work in progress, with no functionality

After we reviewed the GT-1 DSP code, we determined there were no lurking "sneaky amps" inside the GT-1 DSP

All GT-1 DSP settings  / configs / FX settings can already be edited using the official Boss Tone Studio for GT-1 - therefore there is no need for an independent version from Gumtown

True.... except Gumtowns version looks so since graphically!

Well, I understand you point. But the reason I think it could still be useful (and why I want it) is to simply check gt-1 .tsl patches parameters and adapt them to other gt/me products. I personally do not own a gt-1, but a gt-001, and I`m interested on a few gt-1 patches, but cant check them on tone studio without the proper hardware.

So I think its better not only for me but others who want to do the same, to use the "useless" version to do it than ask others for favors.

:)

You can  already load *.tsl files into  any JSON editor - Notepad++ works well
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

More Details on *.tsl format ( use search )
BOSS TONE STUDIO  *.tsl file format
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=10862.msg78890#msg78890
and read the Katana Github docs which go into further details on the Boss Tone Studio *.tsl file format

QuoteI personally do not own a gt-1, but a gt-001, and I`m interested on a few gt-1 patches, but cant check them on tone studio without the proper hardware.

All Boss Tone Studio Editors now  run in an "OFFLINE MODE"  - ( no hardware required) , and allows anyone to review all GT-1 , GT-001, GT-100, GP-10 parameters for each patch *.tsl file  - your goal is already available free

As Gumtown already said - there will not be a release of a working "Gumtown GT-1 Floorboard FX Editor" ( the prior version never was functional)  - because the existing Boss Tone Studio  Editor for GT-1 provides full functionality for editing all GT-1 FX parameters, and runs in Offline mode for anyone to  review all GT-1 patch settings - no GT-1 hardware required:
http://bosstonecentral.com/liveset/category/gt-1/

and ultimately  Gumtown has the final word, he places value on his labor and time, re-read his final words on this matter of releasing a working GT-1 FX Editor:

Is that in a good or a bad way?,
my Mac High Sierra seems to suddenly switch to 2 x screen size over a certain window size.
The editor font sizing is variable like the editor windows sizing.
When set to "Auto Scale" the App window size is determined/limited by the screen width and height (if the screen is radically wide),
and an upscale ratio factor determined.
The Font sizing then takes that upscale ratio and is divided by the screen DPI resolution.

For fixed size upscaling (Auto Scale off, and a scale ratio number entered), the math is slightly different, resulting in slightly smaller fonts for higher DPI screens.
Sort of trying to cater for varied and different monitors.

Hi Gumtown, I had a little time trying out the FxFloorboard this weekend. Unfortunately, although I can install and launch it, it does not connect the my GT-1. Here are some details:

  • GT-1 drivers are installed and the Boss Tone Studio works without a hitch under Windows 10
  • When the FxFloorboard starts it shows a brief message: Patch data transfer failed, are the correct midi ports selected? Pleas make sure the GT-1 is connecte correctly and re-try.
  • A few seconds later a second message: The Boss GT-1 Amp was not found or an error occurred during data transfer. default system data will be as shown on screen and the GT-1 system data might not be in sync
  • The status bar shows ready with an orange pause icon to its left, but the message 'MidiInWinMM::openPort: error creating Windows MM MIDI input port.' is shown
  • At the top of the main window, the connect button is lit green.
  • In the preferences, the GT-1 is selected for both midi in and out.
  • Tx channel is set to 1

I think that's all the info I can provide.

Jacques
The last item to complete in the "Preferences > Midi/USB" menu is to press O.K. to finish the preferences setup/save.
The editor software will pop up a dialog to say it is saving the Preferences to disk, and then the editor will re-start with the settings applied,
and the green "CONNECT" button should be 'lit' if the GT-1 is found.

I did press ok many times and the settings where already set to GT-1 from the get go after the install. As I stated, the connect is lit green already. But  it does not communicate with the GT-1.

What does the debug mode do? Any logs I can send you?
Title: Re: GT-1 - Gumtown's GT-1 FX Floorboard
Post by: gumtown on May 27, 2018, 03:33:56 PM
debug mode just 'forces' a connection, and prints midi data information on the bottom status bar.

Have you updated Windows 10 with the "Creators Update"?
This update seems to have killed the GT-1 USB driver for many users.

Do you have any problem using the Boss Tone Studio for GT-1?
Title: Re: GT-1 - Gumtown's GT-1 FX Floorboard
Post by: Blacque Jacque Schellacque on May 27, 2018, 06:32:59 PM
Boss Tone Studio works just fine.
I install every update for Windows, so I would say I probably have the Creators update.

Don't worry too much about this. I can do what I need with the Boss Tone Studio. I would have liked to try your app but don't want to give you extra work.

If, on the other hand, others have the same problem and you want help debugging this I will gladly give you all the help possible. I have been a software developer for more than 35 years (boy, I feel old saying that!), so I can handle technical queries.

I just tried the Windows version, haven't used it for 2 weeks, and it's broken on my Windows 10 too.  ???
It was working before, but now the program won't open the midi input.
Now working on finding what is going on....  stay tuned for an update ...
Title: Re: GT-1 - Gumtown's GT-1 FX Floorboard
Post by: gumtown on May 28, 2018, 03:26:38 AM
Now sorted, my bad.
Had left in some odd bits of code, which only became apparent when the GT-1 is the only midi device present.
I had to off load Midi-Yoke from my Windows 10 machine to find that.

Fixed up the Windows and Mac versions, so should be all good.

There are some extra features over Tone Studio,
Loading and converting of patch files from many other Boss GT devices,
Patch settings can be displayed or printed as a text listing,
Copy and paste functions to copy a whole patch, or paste just certain effect sections,
A version that runs on Linux.
