Well now that is worth knowing and, depending on the reports of users concerning the editor's stability and usability (I did not look into it yet) it would be enough to make me change my opinion about getting one. If I had known about it when I was looking into it - and I am kind of embarrassed to see that such an editor exists and I did not find it - then I would have bought one. In fact, if I hadn't recently bought, well, a bunch of expensive things, and then gotten ambushed by a vet bill (she's doing very well after the surgery, thank you,  but the biopsy revealed a carcinoma, sadly), I might start looking for one right now.

Quote from: Elantric on February 11, 2013, 10:26:29 AMBut Protools 10 works too.

Yes it does work... if and when it works. If not, not. I have been told it is very finicky running under Windows. Why would I want to risk buying hardware that
1) might require me to build a new computer to Pro Tools' specs instead of to mine when I do not even need a new computer in the first place and my current setup does everything I need it to do; and
2) might require me to learn a new and complex app when I am satisfied by my current DAW, or
3) should I choose to stay with my current DAW - and I would indeed choose to do so - I would still need to use Pro Tools to edit, save, and load presets?
To me that is simply not a sensible course of action. I'd sooner get a Pod HD, or even - if I am feeling more generous and prodigal than could possibly be necessary or wise - an AX-FX II, as it would ultimately interfere with my musical and computing life far less than embarking on any course of action requiring Pro Tools.

1) Your caps lock key is broken.
2) So I guess that
  a) you will never have to save your presets;
  b) you will never have to reload your presets;
  c) you will never want to use any presets that you might download from the net,
  d) there is sufficient on-board user-preset space to last you forever; and
3) Since you have had no problems in over a year and a hundred gigs, we can assume that you will never have any problems, and that the unit is failure-proof, theft-proof, and will last forever.
Now that is impressive.

Kevin M

Well, I, for one, am eagerly awaiting my Eleven Rack. I'm presuming I can use Pro Tools if and when I need to use the editor capabilities it offers, and then use the hardware in a standalone capacity afterwards.

Sorry, But I find this a little condecending ??? All I ws trying to state is that it is still a very usable Piece of gear even without the other things. Sorry you felt my statement was so stupid.

Let's all be nice!  :-).

This is a great thread for getting info on really good deals.  Obviously we don't all agree on equipment all the time, but we should try to exercise courtesy regardless.

I've installed Protools 10 on both a 2011 Lenovo W520 laptop with Intel I7 running Windows 7 64 and
a 2011 MacMini with Intel I7 running OSX Lion 10.7.4

Runs great. The Eleven Rack with Protools bundle includes all the latest Eleven Rack hardware upgrades, and an I-LOK key.
http://www.ilok.com/ - which allows you to install Protools 10 on multiple computers. Protools 10 requires the ILok to run, but you may use third party Audio interfaces  - no longer restricted to Avid or M-Audio.
FWIW -  the complete Full version of Protools 10 runs $699 alone if you buy at the Avid Online Store.
http://www.avid.com/US/products/pro-tools-software/
Sorry you had problems with Protools - but it is the industry standard and best DAW to use when sharing files with pros , and union work.

Also  - I never said this

@Elantric: accept my apology for attributing whippinpost91850's quote to you. Since the forum's editor applet is so poor, multiquotes require various workarounds and more editing; I neglected to replace your name with his; that is to say, I did not think that it was your quote. I have gone back and edited my original post to reflect this.

*************

Back on topic:

Pro Tools is the industry standard, and the Eleven Rack might have a very intuitive hardware interface, but you know what? I have better things to do than learn how to use yet more apps and yet more menu structures for new gear, one after another, because some corporate pig thinks that he can use this tired corporate ploy to get me to use  his company's stuff by essentially giving me no choice in the matter. But here's my choice: I am not going to buy it. There are other devices in the same category and class, and each one has its own specific and unique capabilities. But Eleven Rack is "uniquely unique" in how its manufacturer wants to use it to make my life more difficult. I understand that to Avid my time and energy is of no value whatsoever, but it does have value to *me* all the same. So I'm going to conserve it to the best of my ability.

(You know, I've actually just changed my mind. Irrespective of the availability of the freeware java editor, I am not going to buy an Eleven Rack. Which is not a big deal because I have not bought any Avid products since they absorbed Wizoo and refused to let them release a patch for WizooVerb's multicore bug.)

I just want a very simple editor. I don't and won't buy, install, and learn - in even a superficial way - Pro Tools so that I can use their Eleven Rack Editor: whatever time it would cost me, even if it cost me mere minutes, would be more productively and profitably spent on doing anything else. Really. Anything. Life is too short, and installing and learning software is not the same as making music. I am not scared of learning things, and don't mind doing so, but there has to be some rational purpose for it Avid's gratuitous and unnecessary attempt to force me to become a Pro Tools user does not qualify.

As for the front-panel LED, just... no. No. I am not going to sit with the manual learning and memorizing the available parameters and their locations. No matter how intuitive the interface is, if almost all the parameters are hidden at any given moment, as they necessarily must be when dealing with a little LED window (and they are ALL "little" when compared to a computer monitor) and if I haven't studied the manual to learn of their existence in the first place, I can't "intuitively" find them. If I can not have, for any complex piece of kit, a computer editor with a GUI that lets me see vast categories of parameters on the screen at once, then I am going to find something else to do with my time and money. (This is basically in response to Whippinpost91850 comment about the intuitiveness of the Eleven Rack's OS.)

Of course, since there *is* a computer editor for the Eleven Rack, this is all somewhat moot. But only somewhat. Because that editor was done as a public service by someone probably not unlike Gumtown of this forum. But that someone had to spend time and energy making good the lack of an editor from Avid is unacceptable.

One more point. If I correctly recall, Pro Tools will only run on Intel cpu's. I was very concerned about this point when I originally researched the Eleven Rack, and now, having read on some tech news forums of Intel's plans to lock out add-in graphics boards and system memory, and generally lock down its chips and chipsets, the idea of being forced to use Intel is looking even worse today than it did a year ago. (I advance Intel's chip lockdown plans with some diffidence: they are not completely clear to me.) If I am faced with a choice between building a computer able to either run Pro Tools for the sake of a computer editor because Avid wants to force me to use Pro Tools, or able to run current-generation video games at very high resolutions and framerates, I'll build the gaming machine because it will run almost any other DAW flawlessly. Why Avid can't code for AMD chipsets is a complete mystery to me; almost everyone else seems to be able to do it.

Today's Stupid Deal Of The Day:
Focusrite VRM - Virtual Reference Monitor Box: $49.99 (and free shipping). (Usually $99.99)

(I'd expect these to sell out pretty fast, so if you want one you need to hurry.)

(Well, they're all gone now. I have been kind of interested in trying one of these for a long time. Possibly no one else here had any interest.)

I was interested, but like most of the interesting "Stupid Deals", it was sold out by the time I opened my email.  :(

Find a new use for the SPDIF Digital Output on your VG-99 or other gear.

This popular FiiO D3 DAC Box has both optical and RCA SPDIF Inputs and supports 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz 96kHz, 192kHz - and has decent audio specs  - should work well with either VG-99 or KPA SPDIF Out. $33
http://www.amazon.com/D3-Digital-Converter-Optical-Toslink/dp/B005K2TXMO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1350923129&sr=1-1&keywords=FiiO+D3

Assign the VG-99's "Digital (SPDIF) Output to use the COSM Guitar Output as the Audio signal, - but feed a cheap DAC to feed other Analog FX.

Cell7 wrote
QuoteUpdate - received and tested the FiiO D3 and Im happy to say that it is very well built and it works perfectly with the spdif out of the vg99. So now we essentially have an extra stereo [or 2 x mono if you want] chain that can go to your outboard gear. I am running it straight from the COSM A [after alt-tuning etc] and then into pedals etc before mixing together with the vg99 etc at a small behringer 10 channel mixer. So... I know that this could also be done with the sub outs of the vg99, but for some reason i want to leave those free for flexibility.

Did i mention this thing is made well? for 30-odd euros! It is tiny, metal cased and it is powered by micro-usb from a tiny wall-wart [or in my case sharing from the same power as my ipad and iphone]. It works as soon as its plugged in. As far as i can tell, sound quality is excellent, but there would likely be a delay of a few microseconds due to the DA conversion so it needs to be processed before mixing back in with the vg99 signal or else you will get some phasing...

Just a heads up for Fishman Tripleplay buyers - The FTP comes with Free "basic" versions of SampleTank, Amplitube CA, T-Rax CS.

These are basically identical to these "Free" versions here:
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sampletank/index.php?pp=sampletank-2-xl-versions

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/trcs/

But look out for the price of each "Plug in" that enables new features and requires a separate "Gear Credit" purchase - to enable features, you could easily spend over $1000 with IK Multimedia.

After spending time with the Tripleplay, you will see the value in owning the full versions of these IK Multimedia products. if purchased separately as upgrades, these VSTi plugins would cost $$$

But from now until April 15, 2013

IK Multimedia's Total Studio 3 Bundle is  on sale for $199 (Normally $399)
