FWIW

You can duplicate all the features of the Squire USB Strat for $33

The BEHRINGER UCG102 is compatible with Apple's iPad and iPad 2. Here's how you hook them up to record your tracks!

I could be wrong, but I have been lead to believe that while the Behringer is 16-bit converter the Squire is 24-bit. That doesn't automatically mean it is a better A/D converter, but it sure helps.

Other ways to "USB" your guitar
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Alesis/GUITARLINK/

Alesis  GuitarLink
AudioLink Series 1/4"-to-USB Cable

However instead of the Squire USB Stratocaster

for $149 this looks like a better investment

AND for the record - for IOS users at this hour iPad audio apps only support 16 bit audio

Where did you get that?

GarageBand for iOS fully supports 24-bit audio. Apple doesn't promote it, but I know for a fact that this device delivers the full 24-bits into GBiOS.

Also, I wrote documentation for this iPad app and have pretty extensive experience with it. This app supports 24/96 audio, in fact! As well as multi-channel USB (via RME Fireface UX)

There may be others that support 24-bit, but these are the two that I have direct experience with using.

There's also IK Multimedias Stealthplug which I've been using for the past five years or so and it supports multiple bit rates,
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stealthplug/  The version on the website is the CS version but as far as I can see it's still built the same way, they've just included the Custom Shop software package.

I've had the Fender Deluxe Triple Play Strat for about 9 months. This thing is very versatile. For example, the built in audio interface comes in really handy when away from your home studio and you want to jam with a DAW. The DAW recognizes it as a 1 IN 2 OUT USB interface. I can't understate the flexibility of the built in USB interface. It is awesome. I can track at a 62 sample buffer size with a roundtrip latency of 5ms (3ms IN and 2 ms OUT)
