G day
I really like this jazz smooth sound I attached. On the VG 99 I put together something that despite all efforts it does not sound the same  ???. Is there anybody among you VG experts who is kindly willing to give it a try and maybe...possibly...post me here  a mid file for the VG ??
Cheers

Update:  Alex Hutchings sure got it - or reasonably close - a bit too bright and trebly but that's a cool sound too.  See 2:34 of this video:

Roland VG-99 V-Guitar System

Neck pickup on the jazz box, a little compression and chorus.  I'll see if I can whip one together quick....

Update - see attachments - both .MID and .MP3 for what it sounds like here.

The biggest component of the sound on that record is George's guitar is swimming in reverb and I can tell it's a Lexicon reverb.  A very distinctive sound that will be hard to get out of the VG-99 but it ought to be reasonably close.  If the lower strings are a little too muddy for you you can brighten it up a bit but part of is the warmish sound of the neck pickup of the guitar thru a big of chorusing and reverb.  Try it!

Well I don't have a GR-55 but - try programming....

Jazz Guitar Model (Les Paul, ES-335, L4, depending on what you like most)
Neck Pickup
A little compression - that makes it pop a little.
Clean Tone with a midrange boost (maybe mine was too high)
Chorus and reverb (get it swimming!)

In the case of Alex Hutchings' patch he had more treble than my patch and mine sounds just on the verge of breakup - maybe I'd reduce the level just a bit.

PS: at 0:19 the camera closes the guitar and GK cable, take a look, on GK cable have a ferrite filter, to filter rumble and AC noises...
if he uses, it probably works ...

I have a ferrite filter on both ends of my GK cable.  Kind of clunky but hard to argue with the results.

After listening to this patch a little more I think the slightly overdriven quality was from me recording it a little too loud - it sounds fine to me today.

you feel any difference with and without the filter?

Less overall noise perhaps?  It just sounds clean and studioey as a result.  But I might be imagining that.

Yeah, about two days later I listened on headphones and thought "ah, a touch less bass and it would probably work".  It would muddy it less too.  Anyway, enjoy!  I ended up editing using -4 on the bass side of the EQ and that worked for mine - your mileage may vary.

@ aliensporebomb    anyway now I'm starting to get a deeper grip on the VG and have a more complete picture of its potentiality. In the last attempt to get the Benson sound I forgot to consider to apply the virtual pick up on the neck which it was the key thing. Now I have a nice collection of jazz sounds and also synth sounds from Metheny to Scofield...thank you
