Can you use ethernet cable to run midi signals?

Yes you can. The VG99 uses an ethernet cable to connect two midi signals and power to the FC-300 (RRC2) . So if Roland can do it, you can as well.

Just ensure you use 'twisted pairs' for each circuit, which will help both with cable capacitance, cross talk, and emitted noise.

pair 1 = pins 5+4
pair 2 = pins 1+2
pair 3 = pins 3+6
pair 4 = pins 7+8

shielded UTP cable is best for this application

maximum distance for a USB cable is 5 metres (16 feet)
a midi cable can exceed the recommended 50 feet recommended limit, and has been known to work up to 400 feet.
