Only 16 bit @ 44.1kHz Audio support makes this new ToneShifter product useless for IOS amp sims in 2016

Using less than 24 bits for IOS amp Sims really compromises the audio performance.

If 16 bits works for you on iPad ,  Might as well save money and buy Griffin Studio Connect for $18

Would make more sense to buy a Sonoma Wireworks Guitar Jack Stage

Sonoma Wire Works GuitarJack Stage
24-bit/48kHz, 2-in/2-out Audio Audio Interface and Guitar-pedal-style MIDI Controller for OS X, Windows, and iOS

Sounds like the Tone Shifter guy did not proper homework.

Thanks for the observations.

SLICK

Only the Tone shifter isn't wireless, unless I missed it?

Still waiting for the first properly implemented all in one solution really.
The Sonoma kit looks closest so far, but availability in the UK is nil at the moment and the fact you have to add in your own exp pedal (only one port available?) makes it sub optimal for me.

I'm surprised that with the popularity of iOS guitar modelling SW there are so few options available.

How hard can it be to make a unit that with a 24bit audio interface integrated with 5 or 6 footswitches and at least 1 expression pedal?
Preferably with a toe switch on the exp pedal and the ability to set MIDI CC or PC messages per switch.
I'd even buy it if it didn't charge the iDevice as it's unlikely I'll be playing any 5 hour gigs in the near future...

By the looks of the state of the current offerings its pretty hard but I just can't see why.
Given the amount of trouble BlueBoard and Positive Grid have had with their wireless controllers I can't see a Bluetooth solution suiting me as in the end you still want to physically connect your guitar for best audio quality and latency. May as well have a hard midi connection as well at that point and skip all the wireless worries.

Maybe everyone still views the iPad as a practice tool rather than 'stage ready' but I think the quality of apps like Tonestack and the selection from Bias are more than good enough to satisfy the average audience.

I'd like to say rant over but I'm holding on to my soap box until someone out there makes my perfect iOS audio/MIDI interface/ controller ;P

I think it was originally meant to be wireless.  That is how I first heard about it.

BigDon

Has anybody actually ordered one of these? Their website appears to be taking orders at $229 each.

If the product actually does what it promises, could be very nice.

Ftp usb input?

i will test this

It requires a USB Host port that supports external Class Compliant devices  , and few audio interfaces provide that

( iConnectMIDI Audio 4+ does
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iConnAudio4p--iconnectivity-iconnectaudio4

But you could use a powered USB hub to connect both FTP Receiver and  Tone Shifter Mega to an iPad

details on doing this with other USB audio interfaces here
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9581.0

But I will test all features of  Tone Shifter Mega next month.

Initial review of the Melo Audio  - Tone Shifter Mega

pretty impressive unit

Fully USB 2.0 Audio Class Compliant supports 16/24bit @ 44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192kHz

and works as a  USB  Class Compliant 5 pin MIDI I/O interface and MIDI Foot controller

I tested this with a 2017 12.9" iPad Pro running IOS 10.3

used the USB type B connection to the included right angle USB Type A to Type B "Printer" type cable to an Apple Lighting USB Camera Adapter to the iPad

the iPad was fully charged and powers the  Tone Shifter Mega

I used the 24 bit @ 44.1kHz setting, which was fully compatible with Jamup Pro, Amplitube, Yonac ToneStack , AmpKit

It supports 2 channel Stereo Audio Input ,
Right channel can accommodate 1/4" TRS Balanced Mic or XLR Mic input with phantom power option
Left channel is High -Z unbalanced Instrument input
and there is a switchable Left channel gain booster for low output instruments

There are 1/4 TRS balanced outputs, and Right channel also has an XLR Output.

There is a TRS Stereo Headphone output

Separate level knobs for each of the 2 inputs and 2 outputs, and separate Headphone gain level

The lower row  of 4 footswitches are for Patch change

Upper right 2 foot switches are for bank up / bank down ( many IOS Guitar amp sims support 8 banks of 4 patches ( 32 patches)

the upper left 2 foot switches are for CTL1 (MIDI CC# 22 on/off) )  & CTL2 (MIDI CC# 25 on/off)  - which in most IOS guitar amp sims apps these CTL foot  switches  toggle distortion on / off and delay on/off

It also supports two Expression pedals which can be assigned their own MIDI CC#

There is also compatibility to use the  Melo Audio  - Tone Shifter Mega as a stand alone MIDI foot controller for Kemper and AXE-FX

Its an impressive box and a nice clear legible OLED display

will test with my other gear soon

Here is the user manual

Quote from: Elric, post: 26731816, member: 4587@Elantric Nice! Interested to hear in latency performance with AU/VST plugs and DAW performance. Let us know!

latency was low on my iPad with IOS 10.3  - could run with buffer at "32" for lowest latency  / pop free. - as low latency as my RME UCX on iPad.

it was a joy to plug TS Mega into my 12.9" iPad Pro and have it work right away

- no dreaded "This device uses too much power  / unsupported " warning pop-up message on IOS.

TS Mega works with modern Android devices, will test with LG V20 and Samsung TAB S3 Tablet  both running Android 7.0

I expect TS Mega Audio latency to be low with Mac Core audio as its USB 2.0 Audio Class Compliant and 100% compatible with the Apple Core Audio driver.

Melo Audio states:
"We are releasing a dedicate ASIO driver for WINDOWs"

Can one footswitch send more than one CC (or other midi event)?

No - bit it does support "MIDI Toggle"

1st Press = send MIDI CC#112 , value 127 ( - effect "ON")
2nd Press = send MIDI CC#112 , value 0 ( - effect "OFF")
