I just updated the schematics and PCB designs of all the boards of the VController.

You can find it on: https://github.com/sixeight7/VController_v3

Some of the changes in the PCBs:
* Separate level convertors for second i2c bus
* optocouplers are now all 6n137. They perform much better than the 6n138s
* added capacitor and resistor to keep the VController live during firmware upgrades
* RPi schematic and pcb board now added,

I updated the VController building guide with the changes.

And I removed the OLED option, as these have a different bezel size, leaving large gaps on the top. Also the delivery time turned out to be 17 weeks or so.

Changes in enclosure:
* Seperate drawing for top plate and 3D printing for larger Adafruit displays (including RGB)
* Added the stl's for the RPi enclosure
* Added the dwg files for a perspex top plate for the VController. This really protects the displays.

I don't remember how I stumbled on the vcontroller (probably youtube) but I'm hooked. I bought a G3 to be ready for one (it was an easy buy, all my Line6 gear has failed and I haven't made time to debug it.) It was a toss up between the G3 and the MS70CDR.

Finally got round to make a video of the new hardware and firmware of the V-Controller version 3 (production model). Enjoy!

Good day sixeight :

Every time I read and view the videos of your posts on the development and
now it's employment of your V-controller is/have been nothing short of astounding .

I have made many things  through the years many/some dealing with electronics , but
never on such a high level of extensive refinement .

It looks quite doable and I am intrigued to say the least .

Thanks for your concise documentation , it is truly a lesson in patience , dedication , tanasity
and determination as well as your talent at CB designing  :D .

Correct. Every device has a unique patch name format.

GP10 : P01
GR55 : U01-1
VG99 : U001
G5: A0
Ms70cdr : 00

This calls for a "love" button. "Like" feels insufficient. Great stuff!
To V or not to V: That is the question.

I'm fascinated by this project - I wonder if some of the things this could do might be used to perform some of the things done in this video that Wayne Joness put together:

I wonder if it could be used to generate the sample and hold patterns as used in the video?   In addition to controlling multiple V-devices of course.

I think Wayne is using a sequencer to send out a pattern of cc messages. Through an assign these messages could control any parameter on the VG99.

This can be programmed on the Teensy processor of the VController. But if it needs to have multiple programmable patterns, it will require quite a bit of time. You can always pm me to explore the options.

I haven't made a lot of progress since I last posted. The PCB are in transit.

The displays seemed like a reasonable place to work next. The two approved sources are buydisplay or adafruit. They are slightly different in dimension, so they have an impact on enclosure sourcing.

They're somewhat costly. Buydisplay gets all 13 displays done, and they're ones sixeight has used before, for $82 USD. Now tack on an additional $33 in DHL fees. Adafruit has the 16x2 displays, but they're 10 USD each, which adds up quite quickly.

More searching is needed.

Curious what is the difference between

ERM1602DNS-4-5V
ERM1602DNS-1-5V

The VController has twelve normal displays and one larger main display. The difference is size and also the pinout is different. Both work from the same Arduino library.

One thing of note is that the bezel surrounding the display is used for the dimension of the cutout in the enclosure. Using a different display means potentially changing the enclosure. While I have some thoughts on that for a second one I might make, I would much rather not introduce too many variables into my first build. (Unless the cost of alternate displays goes way down, which would make me reconsider.)

These displays are like buying fresh fish on friday - any "best price" part list you make today on these LCD  displays may be obsolete in a year.

at my day job - we have products which have been in production for 10 years  - but we've been forced to redesign the PCB boards every 3- 4 years due to many parts going "EOL" (End of Life) and these critical parts are no longer available  - and remaining stock priced out of sight, so time to roll in the latest generation components and respin the PCB  - while maintaining the same outward appearance, form, function, and specification to meet the customers needs

I chose Buydisplay, because of the following promise on their website:

We promise the long term continuity supply for this product no less than 10 years since 2015.

Yes, there are cheaper displays on eBay, but not with the same amount of support.

I get it. In my past jobs, we didn't keep any SKU in production that long - Any change was met with an industrial design change, feature revamp, the whole thing was going to get redesigned anyway.

Even so, if I can choose the right parts, I won't have to remake the enclosure. Just trying to stave off future headaches. (where the right parts are Buydisplay, adafruit, or something physically similar.)

Buck convertors have arrived from China. Testing one in the RPi enclosure now:

It is looking good so far. A bit tricky to set the voltage to 5v with the tiny potmeter on the board. Voltage seems to be stable and no heat even when powering the Rpi, G3, MS70-cdr and a usb/midi adapter at the same time...

Managed to set the buck convertors to 5V fixed. Needed to make a cut right next to the ADJ pad on the tiny board of the buck convertor and add a blob of solder at 5V. Picture is taken through my magnifying glass:

Voltage is now steady at 4.96 volts. I just did not trust the small pot on the buck convertor. Touching it changed the output voltage and that way it could damage the Raspberry Pi and other connected devices through USB.

Nice !!
I used two step-up converters which look like those in my GK wireless project to get +7v & -7v from a 3.6 volt LiPo battery.

This video popped up on my YouTube feed:

I do recognize a lot of the considerations, as I had to make them for the VController project as well.

"Am I really gonna put all drawings and code of this project on the internet?"
"What if other people take advantage?"
"What the heck. I'll do it anyway!"

Whenever I've had the open source discussion internally with people who are afraid of it, I say, "but what if something wonderful happens? What if people take what we've built, make it better, and contribute it back to us? Or just, what if it causes more people to use it?"

Fear is a powerful, awful thing.

Found a bit of code that allows me to turn the LEDS of the Lan connector on and off on the Raspberry Pi.

Now the green led will light up when VCbridge is running.
