Title: Battery Power
Post by: Jerry K on November 14, 2014, 03:55:06 PM
Just wondering if anyone knows if this will work for the GP-10 and a RC-30 looper?

I highly recommend a different product

Poweradd Pilot Pro LE-030 32000mAh Multi-Voltage External Battery

This Poweradd Pilot Pro LE-030 32000mAh Multi-Voltage External Battery works very well -

Use the included Black coax power cable (shown above) and then all that is required in addition to make a killer long lasting battery powered pedal board are:

1 ) Visual Sound CYR Converter for One Spot Power Supply with Reverse Polarity - to make the 2.1mm coax DC Plug negative tip.

3) Connect all above to power your FX Stomp pedals
This Pedal Train board works well

That looks good!  Can you plug it in and it will let your devices work while it is recharging if it runs low on power?

never tried - I can use this for 3-4 gigs @ 3 hours each between charges!

The major benefit is the lower noise on Battery power because there is "zero" Ground Loop hum!

Are you saying that the battery adds noise into the sound?  Why would there be any ground loop hum from any battery.  I appreciate your advice, this is somewhat uncharted territory for me.

I was responding to your question here:
QuoteCan you plug it in ( AC Power) and it will let your devices work while it is recharging if it runs low on power?

You very well might hear Ground loop hum if you are trying to "re-Charge" the  Poweradd Pilot Pro on AC Power during a gig !

by contrast if you run your Guitar FX system 100% from the Poweradd Pilot Pro Battery alone - there will be zero chance of AC power supply induced Ground loop Hum  / Noise in your FX .

But you may still experience a Ground loop issue - but that will be due to other factors - like running unbalanced cables into two separate amps that are each powered from separate AC Mains stage outlets -( that's a major no-no BTW! )

Hello, I am just trying to understand the cable run.  If you only want to connect the GP-10 then all you need is the reverse polarity cable?  Thanks!

There is no way to directly connect the Visual Sound CYR Voltage Reversing conversion adapter directly to the Poweradd Pilot Pro

Must do the following

1 ) Set the Poweradd Pilot Pro to output +9VDC

2) Use the  Black Cable (included in the Poweradd Pilot Pro box - seen on the far center right in pic below) and connect this to the Poweradd Pilot Pro DC Output jack
(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fecx.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F81O4lzoQseL._SL1500_.jpg&hash=89e18b1902f14a5b6d89b96429d0e321fee7c105)

3) On the end of the Black cable in Step # 2, Connect a  Visual Sound CYR (Reverse Polarity) converter - to make the final right angle 2.1mm coax DC Plug on the CYR have a negative tip - which is what is required to comply with the Boss Pedal standard as used on 90% of all Guitar effects .

It's not a very elegant solution, but two 8X battery packs with rechargeable AA batteries wired in parallel will power the GP-10 for over 2 hours and cost around twenty bucks if you use batteries from eBay. I took the plug from an old Linksys AC adapter in a drawer. Rechargeables are around 1.25 volts, perfect for an 8X and replacing Boss adapters.

Works fine if your other FX use batteries as well.

Definitely low end, but I made a couple of the 8X bricks to power AC only FX for a wedding I needed to play some time ago. Velcroed them to my pedal board and we were good to go.

I got the battery and cables and they work as advertised, awesome!  With the multi plug 8 cable, I am only going to use the first two power adapters.  Can I cut off the remaining 6 adapters and just put some electrical tape over the end?

Thanks!

I understand that part and I have everything working.  I am wondering if since I only am going to use the first two power adapter heads in this 8 adapter cable ("Multi 8 Plug" http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Sound-Spot-Multi-Cable/dp/B000XXBHA6/ref=pd_cp_MI_3 (http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Sound-Spot-Multi-Cable/dp/B000XXBHA6/ref=pd_cp_MI_3) ) if I can cut the cord and get rid of the remaining six adapters?

Thanks!

Myself - I use the protective caps just in case I need to try a new effect on my pedal board - and just tie wrap it out of the way.

I got it finished, I left my Pedal Power on there as a just in case since I already had it plus I can use it to charge the Battery.  I am really liking how portable this is, it may not seem like it but not having to run power out to the pedal board is a huge time saver.  Thanks Elantric for your help!

I run my Roland VG-99 for roughly 3 hours of up-time on the Tecxus TP10000 power bank.
