hello everyone,

we have a serious problem getting the pitch bend feature working. we are using TriplePlay on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit machine with Studio One Professional 3, 4-Core AMD CPU and 16GB RAM. after the initial installation the pitch bend worked with default Pitch Bend Range setting 12. the TriplePlay VST interface window showed the smooth bend nicely, and the pitch bend wheel on the loaded instrument moved accordingly.

then we changed the Pitch Bend Range value to 20 we could still see the bending in the interface window but not on the instrument's wheel anymore, so no audible pitch bending anymore. returning it to default value 12 did not solve this issue.

so we installed TriplePlay on another system (same specs) with no initial success. we can see the pitch bending in the interface window but not on the loaded instrument's pitch bend wheel, so no audible pitch bend like on the first machine.

all other functions work flawlessly. any ideas ?
thanks in advance...

The pitch bend range must be set on your synth as well, and the setting must match the FTP's setting.

hey ShawnB,

thank you for your swift reply, but we are sorry to say that of course we checked the page in your link before, pbr 12 on FTP was center position on the sampletank knob, max position on pbr 24. accordingly full min and full max when two knobs are available. no success on either Studio One V3 or Ableton 9.11. as stated before it initially worked but somehow cut the connection to the instrument when adjusting the pbr.

any ideas ?
thanks in advance,

Contact Fishman USA for Tripleplay support here

Which app do you use? Fishman TriplePlay or not? What app do you use inside Studio One? Fishman TriplePlay or not?
Do you set PB in FTP and in instrument?

Like Spider says, knowing exactly what you're doing will help.

Sounds like you're running the instrument as a VST using the FTP app as host.   Please confirm.

If you're running a 'chromatic' voice like piano or drums, that would explain it; try different instruments.  If you are running the VST standalone that might explain it, too.

I don't know what you mean by "min and max when two knobs are available".   That doesn't sound right in Sampletank or Kontakt...

Screenshots would help!

hey shawnb,

thanks for your help, we finally worked out the settings for Sampletank 3 (12 is not center position in ST3) , but still struggling with Kontakt.

re your link: "Sometimes (like in the case of Kontakt), there is a plus & a minus value (or an up & down value)" we would like to know where and how to set let's say value 12 as a global setting for Kontakt instruments.

what we tried is :
we hit the wrench, activated "Edit all Groups", in the source window under Mod we added the modulator External Sources → Pitch Bend.
now we wonder how to enter values like 12 or 24. the internal Pitch Bend presets like "Down - Up" or "Linear" don't seem to have these options. the default preset settings for Pitch Bend are pretty unresponsive.

are we on the right track ?

thanks again,

Hi Spider,

not sure how to find Band Options.have searched a variety of Kontakt instruments, some have Options tab, some don't and can't find BO within ones with Option tab.
is BO available on all Kontakt instruments?as mentioned we would prefer a global setting if possible.

thnx.

Kontakt is a bit of a beast.  Very powerful, lots of features...   I am not a Kontakt expert, I just use Kontakt Player.  This is what I know from reading here & there - if any of the below is incorrect or out-of-date, someone please chime in & correct me.

The first thing I know is that NI made it too hard to adjust pitch bend for many instruments...

Notes:
  • For most instruments, to get up to 12 PBR in Kontakt, you do this on the instrument options screen
  • To get more than 12 PBR, e.g., to get to 24, you must add a "pitchbend modulator"
  • Adding modulators requires the ability to edit instruments
  • Kontakt Player, which came with the FTP, does not allow editing of instruments beyond a quick demo
  • Even if you do not see PB controls on your instrument, you could try adding a pitchbend modulator to see if it works
  • The instrument options label varies per instrument, it's not always "Band Options".  Note that in the screenshot attached, it's called "Vintage Options"
  • Many Kontakt instruments have fixed PBR and pitch bend is NOT editable

To pull up the instrument options ("Band Options", "Vintage Options", etc...):
  • Click on the little logo on the left of the instrument (circled in the pic attached)
  • Click on the instrument's Options tab (circled in the pic attached)
  • If pitch bend modification is EASILY allowed, you will see PB up & down here
  • To see the value selected, click the dial with your mouse and the value will appear, as in the pic attached

To add a pitchbend modulator:
  • You must have purchased Kontakt, this won't work with Kontakt Player
  • Click on the "Spanner" wrench
  • If you see a pitchbend modulator, you can edit here to add up to another 12 semitones
  • If you do not see a pitchbend modulator, press the Add button to add one

Good article on Kontakt PB here, including detailed screenshots showing how to add a pitchbend modulator:

Comparison of Kontakt Player vs Kontakt here, showing that "Instrument Editing" is not available in Kontakt Player:

Hope this helps,

Hi shawnb,

thnx for yr detailed post n info.
as you say Kontakt is a bit of a beast.

well,im pleased to say we have a result.
the link you sent is great info for Kontakt users:

http://robertinventor.com/ftswiki/How_to_unlock_Kontakt_pitch_bending

you can see he has gone to Mod in the Source section where pitch bend and altering PB range is an option.
THIS IS THE PLACE.
on our screenshot above you can see we were in Mod in the Amplifier section where only Volume and Pan are available. *facepalm*

your screenshot for Kontakt seems to only apply to the Factory Libraries,
we have many Kontakt instruments, none have this little icon you've highlighted or an Options tab,
so clicking the wrench and altering there is the only option. As Robert points out its not a uniform process,or even available, across all Kontakt instruments.

so now PB works fine and we can start enjoying bending all our weird and wonderful Soniccouture VSTs etc.

btw,we noticed that when set to Mono more than one note responds to PB(both audio and on the FTP interface),
however, set to Poly only one note will PB(if two are played for example, only one sounds as PB and only one shows up pitch bending on FTP interface).we would have thought the opposite to be the case...

anyway, thanks a bunch, you both led us in the right direction,
this was making us crazy cos pitch bend is a key feature for MIDI guitar, great to have it sorted...

cheers,
