Indeed - and it makes the Helix unusable for live gig use for many folks

They recommend the same process on the Helix as they do for the 99 - create a patch with all possible sounds within the patch.  Doable but not convenient.  OR do this:

As silly as this sounds: run an always on delay/verb AFTER the Helix/VG-99/GR-55/Everything so that when you switch patches the sound carries over before the new sound comes in.

"Your mileage may vary."

But the VG-99 patch to patch change "gap" is not that long. The Helix is pushing close to the GR-55 patch to patch change gap.

I don't have a Helix, nor have I played live with one, so I'm speaking theoretically.

When I played live with the VG-88, one of the things that I did is always made sure the footswitches were set up to be like on/off toggles on my stompboxes. To me, that's the advantage of having pedals and all that control. So to me, creating a patch with sounds that I want to turn on and off for the song is the way I'd prefer to do it, limitations or not, most of the time.

Now, that said, for one song (a cover of Roxy Music "Dream Home Heartache") I'd start the song playing an organ on the VG-88, then move to a guitar+amp patch. So certainly I understand that there are uses for multiple patches per song. I don't remember any sort of delay throwing me off live. But it may have been there, because it was a moment where we sort of faded out are playing and then smashed back in.

Anyway, to me, having one patch with the amp and effects you want, and then dancing on the Helix like you would a pedalboard, seems like the way I'd want to go, not a compromise/workaround.

As you said, YMMV.

In this episode we start our Helix "all you need to know" today we look at the unit plus an introduction to setting up a patch, then hearing it through a venue PA/FOH system. This thing sounds so good and was so easy to set up. One hand, stereo live guitar tone with all pedals assigned in under 6 minutes?!?!
Please guys fill the comments with questions or things you'd like to see us put the Helix through, we will over the coming episodes try and answer all your questions and show you "ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW'

Thanks for dropping by guys, see ya in the next one. Please like and subscribe for more, stick around and watch some of our other videos.

Cool video........
I almost have the body done for the lefty FTP install.  I'm using a modified Gibson 335 neck with no binding. It was actually made at the Original Parsons street factory. Nice neck with no binding. I have the fret job done now just need to finish the body and glue her in

Elantric you can move this I'm sure it's in the wrong place
