FTP - How to specify a POLY patch even though your FTP is setup for MONO...

I've mentioned elsewhere you can setup a patch for POLY using the PEDAL channel, even though your FTP is configured for MONO.

Once you know how to do this, you can mix MONO & POLY patches.

Basically, the PEDAL channel is ALWAYS a POLY channel, no matter what the FTP is configured to do.   If the FTP is configured to be in MONO mode, then the PEDAL channel xmits on channel 7.

No actual pedal is required.

The Mono/Poly settings are confusing & should be ignored.  (Remember, the Mono/Poly setting is a global setting, specified on Synth1 on your first patch.   All the others are meaningless, & should really be removed from the UI...)

The Pedal Mode is important.  It will indicate whether your voice defaults to the 'regular' synth, & switches to your pedal channel when the pedal is pressed (Hold (down)), or vice-versa (Hold (up)).

If you have Hold (up) selected, your patch defaults to the PEDAL channel, and will only switch to the 'regular' synth if the PEDAL is pressed.  Just select the patch & you are in PEDAL mode, which forces you to POLY on channel 7.

A screenshot is below, demonstrating a Hardware Synth patch for chromatic POLY (e.g., for piano or organ).

There is a ***LOT*** of depth to the FTP...   I just wish they documented this stuff better.

The FTP *responds* to many standard MIDI instructions.  You send them to channel 1 on the FTP's INPUT port.  For example, the FTP responds to standard MIDI pedal commands.

Related to this topic, there are standard MIDI Channel Mode messages about halfway thru Table 1 here:
     http://www.midi.org/techspecs/midimessages.php

They work...

I.e., sending a CC#126 (any value) turns MONO mode on
And sending a CC#127 (any value) turns POLY mode on

You can control MONO/POLY with a pedal if you like.

Maybe this has been answered before, but after reading this post about using the Pedal switch, I was wondering if it would be possible to assign the pedal to a CC (#?) that could be triggered like a mod wheel?

I don't use (or have) any pedal, so that switch is sitting in my TP software gathering dust!  :)

the Fishman FC-1 has an assignable Expression Pedal input
