Saving configurations for a given project can probably be achieved through sysex.

If it did exist, a VST would only work with/for the PCM portion of the GR-55, and not the COSM or Normal PUs, which is the real power of the unit, the combination. You would need to record or source the hex signal to emulate the COSM. Which might actually be better than playing for audio quality, less the glitches, etc.

After asking Roland Japan (actually, Boss Japan) about the difference between the blue and black GR-55s, I got this reply, quote:

"We updated the program of GR-55 from ver1.02 to ver1.50 at the
timing of releasing black type.
The program is available for both blue and black type.

For piezo pickup, we adjusted the level display of GK sens when
selecting piezo, piezo G, and piezo R type.
We think the customer who uses piezo guitar can adjust the GK sens
more correctly and reduce the tracking problem.

We will inform the updating information at web site on June."

Wow !! Version 1.50 is a major update, for such a large leap in version numbering, there must be quite a few changes going on inside.

Great news! I am still having a few problems perfecting the tracking with my piezo (G), and I hope this update will help. I guess we just sit and wait now and see what turns up on the Roland site.

Well, its "easy" enough to hardwire an external jack/pedal to the hold switch. ; )

That HOLD cannot be assigned to anything but CTL - IS A HUGE WHOLE...IMO.

There is no "Hold Switch" as such, the Hold function can only be assgned to the CTL pedal, and modifying the GR-55 with an external pedal paralleled to the existing CTL pedal won't help much.

I don't expect anything until June 30th

I predict it will appear here first:

When Roland Japan says "June 2012" - this actually means Roland US will post something three months later.

I suggest check these links daily for any news of the new GR-55 Firmware - this is where is will pop up first.

Look for a new  "GR-55 System Update" here:

Aloha E,

and thanks so much for that link.

Makes it real easy and convenient to 'keep an eye out' for any changes.

Looks like you are right. But will it take even longer than June 30th?

Better a late release than a faulty one.  :)

I'm still looking/watching/waiting daily, meanwhile my GT-100 has been issued 2 firmware updates in as many months.

I find myself scouring all the roland sites I can find looking for something every day, and the farther into June we get the worse I get.  And now with only 2 days left in June it's at it's peak.  You would think at my age I would have more patience.  And really there isn't that much more that I need out of the unit, I am anxious to see how helpful the peizo fixes will be, but other than that, I'm just curious to see what else they might send our way.  I'm holding off on buying one of those OPT-1 cards until I see what Roland has done but I still have the GK-3 to use in the interim and my GC-1 3TS strat should be landing at Long and McQuade today.
I guess I'm just a 50 yr old that still acts like a kid sometimes, especially when it comes to music gear.

Elantric

This is typical

Remember we are dealing with Roland

I do not expect it to be posted on any english web site for another 6 weeks.

Does that mean I'll need to learn how to read Japanese if I want to install it sooner.

I can't read japanese, but the number 1.02 still tells me there is no update ready yet here

Ya I was able to read the 1.02.  I was just thinking even if I see 1.50 there, I won't be able to read the install instructions...or the "download here" buttons.   With any luck the update process will be identical to the previous ones.

hmm yes I've just updated...apart from a few technical issues and some new patches that I doubt will be very useful there's no improvement in the controller/assignment area..
