Does Roland make a pedal that will let you connect 2 or more guitars that have separate 13 pin cables?
I want to change guitars during performance without having to unplug the 13 pin cable from the GR-55.
I have a us-20, but that does not do it.

Thanks,
tomgia

I am not aware of such a thing, but it does seem like an interesting concept.

If you could wish for such a device, what sort of features would be handy?

Hi...

A while back I was talking about this problem...as yet I haven't got my solution put together just yet as work and other projects got in the way...FWIW, it was discussed here...

Mine has four inputs, a Pin 7 loop, an A/B main output switch and has an additional switch that can be used as an eternal CTL switch with the VG-99.

It started life out looking similar to like this:

I bought 13 pin DIN connectors from Digi-Key, and did some very patient soldering - it now has two 13 pin ins (with 1/4" override inputs on those two channels), and two dedicated 1/4" ins, as well as a 13 pin out, 1/4" loop, 1/4" aux out, and 1/4" main out (plugging into it bypasses the pin 7 output in the 13 pin connector).  I used the main 1/4" out with the VG-99.  I use the 13 pin out with the GR-55.

Hey paults...

thought about doing the EXACT same thing a long while ago...but was concerned about the 'break-before-make' capabilities of the switch...do you find any problems from that if the GR-55 is still fully powered up when you switch between instruments?

At the time a friend of mine cautioned me against going down that path, as he expected my (GR-30) box would hic-cup badly as a result.... :o

I've had no issues beyond a "click" sound, but muting the 55/99 prevents that, if it bugs you.  If I break a string in the middle of a song, I'm not going to sweat something like that.  I suppose it could vary with the switch design - mine is a QVC brand switchbox, from Micro Center.

I'm switching all 13 pins, including the ground.  By habit, my guitar/GK volume controls are physically turned down whenever I put a guitar down (and I have the GK knob globally set to control the main sound source in each patch) so, when I switch guitars, there wouldn't be a voltage spike sent through the GK volume knob that could cause issues.

Thank you....
..I'll revisit that idea when I get a moment.. :)

Try    The Sgus pedal it lets you connect 3 gk13 pin units

Hi barry..

Yep, know about that one but AFAIK it gives you 1-IN & 3-OUT...

....and the DIY option would work out cheaper (at least for me...)   ;)

Hi guys,
With the help of Gumbo, I have built a similar switch to Paults. It works fine, but also has an ugly pop sound when switched. I haven't tried it on stage yet but I imagine it will be hugely noticeable through the PA. Gumbo referred me to the switch on Ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Port-25-Pin-DB-25-Parallel-Printer-Sharing-Switch-Box-/180655190497?pt=AU_Computers_Printer_Accessories&hash=item2a0fe371e1

Still a usable much cheaper alternative.

As with Paults switcher, the one I made will not make the popping sound if the patch volume is down. So I will have to make a habit of zeroing the volume before I hit the switch.

Since there are two unused extra poles on these switches, I think the Fulltone "no pop" circuit might be something to look at. Both pin 7 and the GK knob pin could get an extra pole.

Realize it comes with two short 1 meter GK-13 cables - priced like other Rolands GK 13 cables ($$$)

The GK20 was a device produced by Wayne Joness however he no longer produces or sells them. It is NOT a US20. The GK20 allows you to connect two guitars two synthesizers

A few years ago PrimovaSound offered a solution but I believe he's all sold out now

20 years ago there was a Swiss box  Klauschock SW41 that  did what you seek but I understand those are long out of production as well

I have something boiling on the pot...just need a couple of weeks or so off the grid. Maybe in 2018...my old GKMX-21 is half broken. Really need a modern replacement myself. 2GK+1 regular in, 2GK out, silent switching + clever MIDI talk...
But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

My solution was a 12PDT toggle switch.  I am not routing power through it, however.  The power connections are constantly attached to both guitar's GK boards to avoid that horrible throbbing thump. I figured a mechanical switch would be the solution with the least noise and crosstalk.

I'd like to try using the old Joness switching circuit, but trying both the MC14016B and the CD4066 for comparison.  My guess is less noise but more crosstalk with the MC14016B.  Not a fan of hand-soldering surface mount either.
